We'll meet at Club Silhouette, which is a very nice ballroom/dance club in Metairie with plenty of space and beautiful hardwood dance floors.  They provide lessons almost every week, ranging from beginners to advanced.  Beginners start at 6:30P followed by intermediate/advanced at 7:30P, the cost of the lesson is $10/person or $50/6 weeks of lessons.  We must pre-register so if you RSVP, please show up.  This event will be capped at 20 people unless you make an individual reservation.

Is there a series taught here? Like the $50/6 lessons is that a series? Or are they all just drop in kinda things? Is there social dancing after or is it just lessons?

There is a series, which you have the option of purchasing or doing individual classes. I will depend on your schedule. As far as I know, there is no social dancing afterwards, but if you view Silouhette's monthly calendar, you'll find that they have latin nights every few weeks or so. We'll get into some of those after we get our group together and see who's interested in going out to practice the moves we learn in class.

Hey, can you please change me to intermediate instead of beginners?

Thanks so much for your reply. I only asked about the intermediate class because I received two different times for class (5:30 and 6:30). I wouldn't be able to attend the early class. But, it all worked out and I made it to the 6:30 class (beginners) and enjoyed it very much. Your encouragement meant a lot.

Hi Judy, so you went to the class on 2/19? I'm sorry, I didn't know. I was planning for us to do the 3/12 class so everyone who is joining could meet one another. Anyway, hopefully you'll be able to go again and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm so looking forward to going but I wanted to wait until after Mardi Gras. Also, I found out last night that one of the best places (in my opinion) to go salsa dancing has changed ownership and is changing a lot of things including their salsa dance nights (from every weekend to once or twice a month). So if you know of any really good places for dancing, let me know.

Nolagirl, I'm still a little worried about the age-factor. Does it matter to this group? I'd like to dust off my dance moves too!

Hi Judy, as far as I'm concerned, its not about age its about dancing and fun. To give you a gauge, I'm in my mid-40's. Anyone who would like to dance is welcome to join us. I'm so excited that you responded.

Hi Judy, I'm not sure if my reply went out to you so I'm sending it again. Age is not a factor. This is about building a fun, solid group of people who are interested in latin dancing. Learning or just getting out to dance does not matter to me. I'm always willing to learn new moves and always willing to dance. To give you something to gauge, I'm in my mid-40's. When I go out dancing, I dance with 20-somethings and 40-somethings, it doesn't matter to me as long as it's drama free. I hope to meet you soon.

do you have to bring a partner?

    February 20, 2014

    • nolagirl

Hi Jimmy, no partner is needed. I'm attempting to build a nice community of latin dancers, beginners, intermediate or advanced. I love to dance and don't always have people to go with so I figured I'd find like minded people to dance with without the drama. If you have a friend that might be interested in learning bring them along, if not, still come and meet a new friend to dance with.
