In Praise of Slow: How a Worldwide Movement is Challenging the Cult of Speed

This book came 4th in the August/September vote and was suggested by Jessie.  I have asked her to host this session and so the date may change and the venue has yet to be chosen.  However, it will happen in September.

DON'T HURRY, BE HAPPY.

Almost everyone complains about the hectic pace of their lives. These days, our culture teaches that faster is better. But in the race to keep up, everything suffers - our work, diet and health, our relationships and sex lives.

Carl Honoré uncovers a movement that challenges the cult of speed. In this entertaining and hands-on investigation, he takes us on a tour of the emerging Slow movement: from a Tantric sex workshop in London to a meditation room for Tokyo executives, from a SuperSlow exercise studio in New York, to Italy, home of the Slow Food, Slow Cities and Slow Sex movements.

As always, it is available from good retailers and here

    Hi,

Hope you're all well and not suffering from Monday blues too much!

I'd be happy to meet up earlier or on Sunday instead of Saturday to accommodate Sissel if that would suit you guys too? Don't know if we could be flexible considering there's only a few of us?

    See you soon,

    Kaatje

      Hi Kaatje,

That's such a nice thing to suggest - thanks for offering! If other ppl are willing that would be awesome. I could be there from 10 to 10.45 on Saturday or anytime on Sunday :-)

Hi all, I've just had confirmation re timing of a softball match I'm going to that Saturday and unfortunately it starts at 11.30 so I won't be able to make this after all, with the 10.30 start. Gutted, was really looking forward to this discussion! If anyone liked the book and want to read more, I recommend the same author's "Slow Fix" :) See you all soon!

    Hi,
I would be happy to turn up at 10 without reservation. Alternatively I just emailed this place for a reservation for another meeting http://www.dishoom.com/covent-garden-menu/

Hi folks, I emailed The Book Club and their response was that they don't take reservations at the weekend but if 'we' got there for opening at 10am then get seated together shouldn't be a problem. So, it is up to you all whether you would like to do this or not. Post your thoughts here and I'll update accordingly.

The menu looks good. I'm sat eating muesli at home but thinking about their fishfinger sandwich! If no other suggestions are forthcoming in the next week, I'll make it official.

Sounds like a lovely place. I especially like the "cakes available at the bar" bit :) See you all soon!

Just purchased the book so I can read it while on holiday next week. Reading about taking it slow while on holiday, if that won't calm me down I don't know what will!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
