Following a discussion of Bookslam this morning, here is more information on the forthcoming event at the end of the month.
'Book Slam returns south of the river to the appropriately fading opulence of the Clapham Grand in the company of our old pal, DBC PIERRE. The Booker Prize-winner introduces us to his mind-blowing new work, ‘Petit Mal’, which puts the 'cadence' into 'decadence', the 'ouch' into 'louche' and spits the 'pip' from 'epiphany'. He will be joined by fellow flaneurs, MICHAEL SMITH - journalist, broadcaster and, in tandem with legendary DJ and producer, Andrew Weatherall, author of 'Unreal City', a paean to lost London - and the Aphrodite of the Afro, SALENA GODDEN. Comedy comes from the brilliant Australian MATT OKINE and bare knuckle soul from the remarkable, THABO & THE REAL DEAL. Hosted by FRANCESCA BEARD – poet, raconteur and living proof of the flaws in nominative determinism.'
I will be going along with a few friends. If you want to join or just say 'Hi' that would be great. It's not an official session so there is no limit to the RSVP list and I won't apply the house rules on this one. However, this also means that I will not be holding seats for people, should I get there first. It's up to you all to buy your ticket and find a seat (hopefully with us, but maybe not if you are late!)
