23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism by Ha-Joon Chang
Ha-Joon Chang's 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism turns received economic wisdom on its head to show you how the world really works. In this revelatory book, Ha-Joon Chang destroys the biggest myths of our times and shows us an alternative view of the world, including: There's no such thing as a 'free' market
Globalization isn't making the world richer
We don't live in a digital world - the washing machine has changed lives more than the internet
Poor countries are more entrepreneurial than rich ones
Higher paid managers don't produce better results

Although I'm still not so sure about the book, I thought the debate (and where all the ideas took us about gender equality and all) was great! I was also pleasantly surprised by Pizza East's breakfast! Thanks for organising Ellie_Owl, and it was great to see everyone.

Hi All, just a few days after our meet-up Ha-Joon Chang will be giving a talk called Economics, But Not as You Know It. It will be at the LSE on Thursday 1 May from 6.30pm. I’ll be going to this so if anyone fancies me joining please let me know (via this message board) and I’ll put the event up as a meet-up to remind you of the date etc. For further details see below.

    Hi All,

As it looks like we will be a group of 8 I have had to change the venue for our meet-up as the Electric Diner only has booth tables for groups and these booths only hold maximum of 6 people. After calling around and finding that 9/10 restaurants in Notting Hill have a "we don't take reservations" policy (so hate that trend)!! I have booked us in at Pizza East which is another 5 minutes down the (Portobello) Road from the Electric.

Don't worry if you aren't a fan of pizza/Italian their brunch menu has lots of classics.

My number if you need me is 07809717439.

    See you there guys

Oh no, I signed up to this one mainly to try the Diner! Do you really think all 8 will show...?

I was looking forward to going there too. As we all know for one reason or another the odd one or two people don't turn up. But I can't risk booking for 6 is and excluding a member who has taken the time to read the book and come to the meetup. So it looks like I'm going to have to organise the Electric for another meet-up.

Weird the day after I put up this event the author
Ha-Joon Chang is the Guardian Newspaper. I do not entirely agree with what he says, but it is food for thought.
