The Examined Life

Timing moved up half an hour as we're more likely to get enough seats that way.

S.

-----

About the book:

"A Sunday Times bestseller. Longlisted for the Guardian first book award. A Radio 4 Book of the Week. This book is about learning to live. In simple stories of encounter between a psychoanalyst and his patients, The Examined Life reveals how the art of insight can illuminate the most complicated, confounding and human of experiences.

These are stories about our everyday lives: they are about the people we love and the lies that we tell; the changes we bear, and the grief. Ultimately, they show us not only how we lose ourselves but how we might find ourselves too."

It was lovely meeting everyone on Saturday. The discussion is still lingering in my head and making me want to re-read bits and pieces of the book. Thanks for a great time and see you at another meetup! Sara

Hi, I enjoyed the book and the location, but unfortunately due to the size of the group and the liveliness of the venue could not follow the conversation during the meetup at all... I suggest that next time the group goes up to more than 8 attendees an official decision to split the discussion is made.

Hi Morna, thanks for the feedback. As you can see from the convo with Kaatje below we had planned to split the group, however we found a table for 10, waited approx 10mins over start time and only 8-9ppl had arrived. We then made a joint decision as a group to try it as one group instead, which everyone agreed to. You and 1-2 others had not arrived at that point, and when we got up to the full 11, about 30mins after the agreed start time, it seemed too late (in my opinion) to ask for new tables. I'm sure you understand we have to work on the basis of who's there when the meeting starts, esp when the organiser isn't told if someone will be late. Have a great Sunday!

Hi all, thanks to everyone who showed up today, it was great to see you, especially our first timers :-) Some of you were asking about the personal / social narrative book, and it's called Changing the Stories We Live By, by Timothy Wilson. Till next time!

    Hi Sissel,

I've just noticed that the number of attendees have gone up to 17, so I was wondering if we have a table reservation for Joe's?

    Looking forward to the session!

      Hi there,

Thanks for watching out! Joe's doesn't take bookings on the weekends, but I think we'll be okay - historically speaking all 17 won't turn up, and we have an extra table host due to size anyway, so can split ourselves in two which will work better with seating. I might move the time to 10.30 as they won't be as busy then, but other than that I think we're good to go (oh, and I have to re-read the book again too!) :-) Looking fwd to catching up! S.

    Hi Sissel,

I hope all is well! I was thinking about joining (have to admit I don't have the book yet) and noticed 16 people have RSVP'ed, could I still join? Let me know if you need a co-host to split the group in 2! X

Of course, would be great to see you. Another table host is reading my mind completely! I have heard that there's been lots of dropouts last-minute still, so not sure how many will turn up, but would be great to have you on standby :-)
