I am an Australian who is making England my permanent home. This has naturally meant I’ve lost a lot of good friends who have headed back to Sydney after their phase in London has ended and am looking to build a network with intelligent and social females in London. I genuinely enjoy reading non-fiction and while there seem to be a lot of book clubs in London focused on popular fiction, very few are non-fiction focused (and even fewer have a relaxed approach to them). I am a serial buyer of non-fiction books and am looking forward to being part of a book club that gives me an outlet to discuss them!
I am currently reading Bad Samaritans by Ha-Joon Chang. So far so good, a very easy to read view (albeit not necessarily a new one) on why protectionist policies should be utilised effectively by developing countries in order to emerge from economic impoverishment and why the developed world actively discourages this for their own ends. I’ll confess to being somewhat left wing (if a corporate lawyer can call herself that instead of just saying “I’m a champagne socialist”!), but don’t let that stop you from joining if you are not!
I’ve been looking for a non-fiction book club to join for some time. Mix in that curious and yet so delightful meal between breakfast and lunch, and I am sold (clearly there are benefits to starting a club).
