WHAT IS BHANGRA::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
one of the happiest and most exuberant forms of movements that originated in the Punjab region of North India. Traditionally performed at harvest season in the villages of Punjab, Bhangra is now known as a folk dance that is done all over India during family celebrations and festive occasions. If you have ever gone to an Indian wedding and witnessed people bouncing joyfully in circles, shrugging their shoulders, and laughing endlessly, you have experienced Bhangra. In Bollywood movies, its often shared during scenes reflecting such colorful family celebrations.

WHAT IS GIDDHA:::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Giddha is the folk dance of women in Punjab, known as the counterpart of Bhangra. It is just as energetic as Bhangra but at the same time it manages to creatively display feminine grace, beauty, and elegance. It focuses on more feminine movements using your hips, beautiful hand gestures and facial expressions.

Based in San Francisco, Dholrhythms Dance Company is an organization dedicated to promoting the artistic and cultural heritage of India through the beautiful Bhangra and Giddha folk dances of Punjab, India. Dholrhythms hosts classes, workshops, and presents performances and events that celebrate this unique folk dance and Punjabi culture. Since its inception in 2003, Dholrhythms has grown into a boundless and unique platform for people of diverse backgrounds to come together, express themselves, and dance in a non-competitive and positive environment.

Co-Founders Co-founders Vicki Virk and Suman Raj envisioned Dholrhythms as a way to share their love of community, culture, and dance. The eclectic group of women who dance with Dholrhythms Dance Company have become one of the most talked about groups in San Francisco Bay Area creating a demand for this dance. Led by Vicki Virk's punjabi heritage, Dholrhythms highlights the ancestral and ethnic roots of the Punjabi dance form while pushing boundaries with contemporary influences. The result is a fresh and exciting dance full of joy, energy, and passion. Dholrhythms also co-founded, hosts, and headlines the legendary monthly event, Non Stop Bhangra, voted as one of the dance floor nights in San Francisco.

In addition to Non Stop Bhangra events, Dholrhythms Dance Company has been featured on exceptional stages and platforms such as: SF Mayoral Inauguration at City Hall, TEDxSF, Stern Grove Festival, Michael Franti’s Power to the Peaceful Festival, Goldman Environmental Award Ceremony at The Palace of Fine Arts, Yerba Buena Center For the Arts, Oakland Museum of California, The Fillmore, The Kanbar Center For the Performing Arts, Grand Performances in Los Angeles, Levitt Pavillion for the Performing Arts, Pasadena, Globalquerque at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival, Salmon Arm, British Columbia and much more!
