Holiday Social

Social - come and meet other book club members over a meal or drinks. Talk about what you're reading and want to read. Discuss ideas you have for the club for the coming year.

Thanks for all the members who responded to the survey. 6 people indicated that they're available on this date. With this number I will get a reservation, however if you didn't fill out the survey and you'd like to attend, PLEASE RSVP, as otherwise with the busy holiday season, there may not be room and we'd like to include you.

For the comments submitted on the survey -- I'll present them at the social -- then I'll summarize the gist of the discussion and post on the discussion board for other input.

See you Thursday and Happy Holidays!

One of the topics last night was the silencing of scientists by the Canadian government. Here's some of the story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/22/opinion/sunday/silencing-scientists.html?_r=0

Suppose I should point out the non-fiction book in there: Chris Turner is the author of "The War on Science: Muzzled Scientists and Wilful Blindness in Stephen Harper’s Canada"

Regrets for last minute can't come, but a seasonal cold has me in its grip.

I've made a 'loose' reservation at the Fox and Fiddle. We do not have the back room booked. If you have RSVP'd yes and your plans change and you decide not to attend, please update your RSVP as a courtesy. And please let me know if you think you'll be late, as it's a busy season and the venue will likely want to give extra seats to other customers. Thanks!
To find us, ask the server for the book club, or Rose.

Hi all, I just joined this exciting group, and I very much look forward to helping make a useful contribution and learn from others. This week is tight, so I do not think I can make this event, but I would be thrilled to meet up either later in the month or in Jan 2014. How often does the group meet? Cheers, Jeremy

Welcome Jeremy! We meet once a month -- we have a new satellite group -- the WestGTA group, that meets once a month also in the west part of the GTA. Most months we discuss a selected book and we meet at the Reference library, and some of us meet in a nearby pub afterwards. This month for the Holiday social, there's no specific book and it's all pub. Rose
