A book club for people looking to read thoughtful intelligent books. If you like to read non-fiction this is the place.
Any suggestions from members of future titles would be great. Please post suggestions on the meetup discussion board. Books must be available in the Toronto Public Library (not too many holds) and at Chapters. Authors are welcome -- but not at discussions of their own books. Each month, we vote on a selection of books through the a meetup poll -- you can still see past polls.
We meet at the Toronto Reference Library -- our host and sponsor, in the Beeton Auditorium on the first floor.
A small donation of about $1 is requested to cover the meetup website costs. If the venue is a restaurant, there is a charge of $2 with the remainder going to the wait staff.
The meetings are open to the public and book suggestions and selection are done by members through the meetup site. We cover a wide range of non-fiction topics. If you want to check out the group and have not read the book you are more than welcome.
Members are encouraged to read the book before the meeting. Copies are usually available at the library, or for purchase from a bookstore or online. At the meeting, a volunteer moderator leads the discussion with general questions about the book and members participate in the discussion. People who haven't read the book are welcome, however there is no presentation or summary of the book and it's generally more enjoyable to have read the book or at least some book reviews. If you haven't had a chance to read the current book, you can start on the books for the following meetings.
