Happy New Year! I hope everyone had enjoyable holidays. I see there's a lot of interest in the January book "Bad Science", by Ben Goldacre.
In the past, I regularly encouraged members to submit book suggestions. Since I’ve added a question to the member profile for a book suggestion, we’ve been getting LOTS of great suggestions from all the new members. Thanks! Now that there's a bit of a pile-up, in order to streamline the work of checking them out, I'd like to invite you to fill out a 'pre-poll poll' here:
I'll close this poll on Saturday.
We'll still have the regular monthly poll ... I’d like to put up the poll for the March book before the end of this month. You are all still welcome to add book suggestions on the discussion list any time. Please suggest books available in the Library – it helps if you add the number of copies/holds, and if you are persuasive about why we should read the book, say with a link or excerpt of a book review, or some comments of your own.
The winter weather sometimes presents transportation challenges for some members in far-flung areas of the GTA in attending the book club meeting. If you’d like to hold a satellite meeting someplace other than downtown, say in a coffee shop or pub in your neighbourhood, let me know. In my experience that small group discussions can be just as interesting as larger ones.
