Self-Inquiry, Surrender, and Integration

Chani speaks on the nature of duality and nonduality and leads us in meditation.

Scott MacInnis asks, "What is not part of your spiritual life?" A consideration of this question may help you deal with integration issues you may be experiencing.

Lynn Fraser guides us through an inquiry into Who Am I starting with yoga's 5 koshas (sheaths or layers): Annamaya (physical body), Pranamaya (breath/energy layer), Manomaya (lower level of mind), Vjnanamaya (intuitive higher level of mind) and Anandamaya kosha (layer of limited bliss) and ...

And Dustin LindenSmith hosts the questions, "What does it mean to 'let go?'" "What is the importance of 'surrender' in the spiritual path?"

    From Scott: What if we had a calculator that had a programming error giving us these results: 1 + 1 = 2, 2 + 2 = 4 when the real answer is 1+1 = 1, 2 + 2 = 1. Would we blame the calculator? Or the programmed mind?

That was fun last night; I'm sorry I didn't get to hear Karine's singing and the rest of the evening's discussion.

For anyone who might be interested, I've posted my speaking notes from last night on our group discussion board:

Thanks to all of you for your attentive listening and thoughtful questions. I really enjoyed sharing with you all. Dustin

Yesterday's meet up title sums up the spiritual journey process for me. It all starts with self inquiry, some doubts. Then you slowly learn to surrender still thinking at some level that you might lose yourself in the process; only to discover that you emerge integrated into your wholeness after total surrender. Groups are meant to facilitate each others journey towards this absolute truth. Thanks everyone for being there.

I especially enjoyed Scott's insight into permeating our daily life with 'spiritual life' and how we can meet whatever is arising with interest. Even anger, whom many would label not spiritual, can give us insight into where we may be holding on to ideas about how things should be. From Chani's opening talk, Dustin's contemplative questions were deeply considered. He's going to post them on here. His reflections on who 'he is' now as a normal-weight person revealed a lot of fixed ideas of who he thought he was have dropped too. Lovely. It was wonderful to see everyone, old friends and new.

Wow, what a gang of people gifted in different ways. Usually 25 people is too much for these meetups. But last night it seemed like an intimate group. In these meetups everyone's a teacher and everyone's a student, and probably no one would claim to be either.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
