April Meetup - Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void

"Packing for Mars" is a book about outer space and what happens when human beings try to survive there. The author, Mary Roach, is something of a nonfiction superstar, having also written best-sellers "Stiff," "Spook," and "Bonk."

We'll be meeting in a more private back room at Brick Oven Pizza. They have a full food menu, beer, and wine.

Journey with us into space, the final frontier! <--- Star Trek reference

I'm limiting the group size to 20 so that our conversations can remain intimate and everyone can have a chance to participate. Please don't get discouraged if you're on the wait list at first! Inevitably people find they can't make it after all and chances are very good that everyone on the wait list will be able to come since attendance has been well under 20 people in the past.

If your plans do change and you're unable to come, please change your RSVP so that someone on the wait list can come in your place.

Confessing to having not read the book, I appreciate I was allowed to contribute to our lively discussion of 6. Rather than not show up, reader reviews online and other information should allow members to participate without being completely clueless. The Brick Oven Pizza was a good location.

Here is another reading group option, mostly sf/f with one new novel and one classic each month held at two different libraries in North Austin.

I really, really wanted to come tonight because I LOVE this book, but I'm still not over a sinus infection like I'd hoped I'd be by now. So sad to be missing tonight!

Next week's New Yorker has an article about the current status of Mars exploration. Here's a link to the full article for those who might be interested in picking up where Mary Roach leaves off:

Sorry, folks. I don't think I'll be able to make this one. Too much is going on and I'll only have time for one meetup this month. See you all in May.

That's a shame, but look forward to seeing you in May.

I will withhold my vote for May. It would be tacky if I were to vote for a certain selection !!!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
