I'm not a member yet, and I probably won't join until the fall. I've decided to keep my professional commitments limited for the summer. But I will check out the website more completely.

Can you post more info about the board? What do they do?

    May 14, 2014

    • Robin M.

Sure, Pam. The easiest thing for me to do is to direct you to the EFA website: http://www.the-efa.or...

We are all volunteers, and meet once per month to assess and review the state of the organization. We focus on improving services to editors and reaching out to people who would hire them in order to grow our job list. Are you an EFA member yet?

Hi EFA Members! Don't forget to vote in the EFA Board of Directors election, live now! I have thrown my name in the hat one more time to continue the work I've been doing towards a beautiful new user-friendly website and working toward getting more clients for EFA members. Please consider voting for me!
    Thanks so much,
    Robin

Already did! And you were the only vote I cast. :)

Thanks so much for the client advice. I called him today & had a good conversation about the level of edit I initially thought the book needed and what it really needs. He's been happy with my work so far and does not want to fire me for missing my deadline (spot on, Roy). We negotiated another chunk of hours at a slightly discounted rate. Then after all that is agreed, he tells me he's sending me 3 CDs of photos and wants photos integrated into the text. So that will be a whole 'nuther thing, haha! But anyway I feel WAY more confident thanks to my "therapy session" last night.

I'll have to be a "maybe" -- I've got a cold that has made me lose my voice and look really scary due to an eye infection. I'm pretty sure I'm past the contagious stage, but I still may not be feeling up to it.

Ha ha. I'm going to! I'm looking and feeling better today, but am still not up to par. Until next time....

I'm looking forward to this meeting. Can we choose a section to focus on? I'm not sure I can read both sections between now and Thursday.

I haven't read much yet but I think I'll take some discussion points from Part VI, The Future of Editing.

    Flu season. me neither.

I won't make it either, sadly. I was sick earlier in the week and now have to hightail it to finish the projects that are due tomorrow. I'll buy the book, and I hope we can do another session on Richard Adin later.

Looks like I'm also a maybe as I'm having some child care issues. Grr!

If you don't have the book please go to Adin's blog www.americaneditor.wordpress.com to read some of his posts. We will sample the main topics broadly and choose one or two specific areas to focus on next month--say, the sections on The Career of Editing and/or The Future of Editing. The speaker I had lined up for March (indexing) had to cancel, but I imagine we'll have plenty of fodder for at least two discussions.

Wait I'm supposed to read a book??!! I don't think I signed up for that!

I've been following his blog for a while, so though I haven't read the book, I think I'll be able to understand the conversation.

      That's what I'm thinking, too.

Not sure I'll be able to buy and read the book before then but will do my best!
