I am so happy with the great response. I knew there were others who shared a mutual interest in practical self defense and sharing that knowledge. Great mix of backgrounds. Our meetings should be a great experience of learning, practicing and having fun.
Considering location for meetup as members join. Looks like we have West Bay and also Shawn, in the East Bay. I live in San Mateo, and Bayview/Jonesville Park might be a good location. Somewhat central to all of us. There is a great, flat, grassy area, off of a pedestrian walkway, surrounded by trees. There is also on street parking on Anchor Rd. The park is located across from the Bay, on East 3rd Ave, San Mateo. Any other suggestions?
Rainy season is coming up, so really bad weather may alter our scheduled meetings. We maybe getting a little wet and dirty, but I have found that realty may present up with a less than optimal occasion and enviornment when we have to defend ourselves. A situation probably will not occur in the dojo, dojang or kwoon.
I am opening up a Normal Self Defense Facebook account, so that we can all communicate readily regarding schedule changes or locations.
Each one of us has something unique to offer to the group, be it self defense technique, style, experience, philosophy or psychology. I am honored and excited to meet and share with all of you.
Please forward any and all suggestions, postings and info pertinent to the group. I am hoping that more non martial artists join the group. If you have any friends or acquaintances who have considered learning some practical self defense, please invite them. This will be a great opportunity to practice with so many trained and experienced people, who wish to share their knowledge.
I am horrified with the sad statistics regarding those of us who have been the victim of violence, who have for whatever reason, have not chosen to learn how to prevent another occurrence. 1 in 5 women who are raped or assaulted ever seek to learn any self defense after the attack. How sad it that!
