May Morning - Dance Up The Sun with Apple Tree Morris

How often do you get to dance up the sun? And participate in a worldwide community dance event?

Come help up celebrate the beauty of Spring in Sonoma County as we dance up the sun on May Day behind the Sebastopol Youth Annex (directions below).

For over a century, Morris dancers have been dancing at sunrise worldwide on the first day of May. West coast teams have the honor of being the last to dance as the wave of dancing begins in New Zealand and swings around the entire planet.

The dancing starts at 5:30 A.M., and will go through sunrise (around 6:20) and a little bit more and then you are welcome to join us at a potluck breakfast nearby. There will be morris dancing to watch and country dances everyone can do, as well as wonderful music and singing. We’d love if you’d join us for this celebration!

Dress warmly, since it tends to be chilly before dawn and you may want a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

This is a free event. Please bring a potluck dish if you are staying for the potluck after.

Location Details:
Sebastopol Community Center Youth Annex
425 Morris Street, Sebastopol

Morris St. is one stop light east of Hwy 116 (across from Bradley Video),north off of Hwy 12 by the row of palm trees. Go one long block along this industrial street. The Youth Annex is just past the Sebastopol Community Center where the road bends left, on the right with a green roof.

About Apple Tree Morris: Morris is a festive seasonal dance that dates back hundreds of years to the farming communities of the Cotswold Hills in Southern England.  It's boisterous, athletic and colorful and a perfect way to celebrate the change of seasons. It was great to see everyone - about 35 folks came out for one of the warmest and clearest May mornings I can remember. There were lots of Morris dancing, singing and 2 community dances. Then we all went inside for a yummy potluck. Thanks to Apple Tree Morris for organizing this!
