Hot Point Stringband is first and foremost a dance band, characterized by their own brand of sizzlingly hot contradance tunes, high-energy squares, and string swing. Playing an eclectic mix of high-energy original and traditional old-time and Celtic fiddle tunes, Hot Point is known for their ability to maintain a deep groove at any tempo. Their legendary energy has made them a favorite at contradances across the country. Hotpoint is: Mark Burhans on fiddle; Hilarie Burhans on clawhammer banjo; Mark "Pokey" Hellenberg on percussion and banjo uke; Marlene Shostak on piano; and Nick Weiland on bass.
Our caller will be Lisa Greenleaf from Massachusetts. Lisa Greenleaf, treats dancers across the country to her high spirited, witty calling and is known for precise walk-throughs of zesty and flowing dances. Lisa's playful style makes everyone feel welcome. Her wide knowledge of traditional and modern dances (both contras and squares) and her community-building attitude put her in high demand at camps around the country.
There will be a free lesson at 7:00 and beginners are welcome.

About Contra Dance: Contra Dance is fun, easy to learn, and accompanied by live music. Before each dance, the caller teaches the dance and continues to prompt the dancers once the dance starts. Contra dance musci featurs fantastic fiddle tunes, driving Celtic rhythms, Cajun, old-timey and sometimes dashes of Eastern European and swing.
