Paddle With A Park Ranger At Lake Berryessa - Full Moon Friday!

Come enjoy Lake Berryessa from a unique perspective on a ranger-led paddling tour. Each tour offers a different experience as we launch from various areas around the lake.

Our final "spring" paddle will be out of Putah Canyon Recreation Area, where the friendly folks there are waiving the launch fee for us!  We will be launching from the western launch ramp (not the main one) and exploring Putah Creek after dark.  The full moon will light our excursion as we talk about animals' adaptations to navigating in the dark.

Normally we aren't too picky about when we launch, however, this time I'm asking - Butts in Boats at 8pm!  As in, get there with enough time to be properly set up so we can leave promptly at 8.  EVERY boat is required to carry a working flashlight AND a whistle (and of course PFDs!).

Bonus? For those of you who have always asked about camping, Putah Canyon is a campground!  Call to make reservations -[masked]-9051.

The fine print: High winds could cause an event to be cancelled. Paddling outings are open to experienced swimmers with a kayak, canoe or other non-motorized boat. Coast Guard-approved life jackets will be available, but boats will not be available for rent. Participants should bring their boat, life jacket, paddle, flashlight, whistle, water, clothing layers depending on the weather and a snack. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. For details and directions, please contact Park Ranger Victoria Payan at[masked] ext. 113 or [masked].

Unfortunately, RSVPing on this site isn't enough to secure a spot. Please send me a quick email at [masked] in order to RSVP. Thank you!

Wonderful paddle, the moon rise over the water was amazing...Thank you for organizing this Victoria! curious if anyone got any amazing shots of the honey moon as it rose?

Other than the low water conditions causing a very muddy launch, it was a winner.

It was my first MeetUp & I had a wonderful time. It's great to meet so many interesting, fun people. I'll remember that moonrise forever. I can't wait to see more like it. Thank you Victoria for leading such a fun informative outing.

FYI. The sun doesn't set until after 8:30 and the moon doesn't rise until quarter past 9:00.

We launch at 8 so that we make sure we have plenty of light to launch by. And as Phil said, we are usually about a mile or so up the creek by the time the moon rises. It has to come up over the ridge anyhow for us to see it.

By the time we get out a mile or so up the lake, it will be past 9 anyway. Living near the lake, I know that the moonrise itself is worth getting out for. Besides, a twilight paddle is pretty cool too.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
