Food Gardening Specialists are presenting a free Spring Food Gardening in a Drought Year Workshop.
Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Stony Point Community Garden located at 2150 Giffen Avenue, Santa Rosa, off of Stony Point Road, one mile south of highway 12. The workshop is an A to Z approach to food gardening: garden location, options for planting beds, soil components and amendments, compost and fertilizers, working the soil, crop selection and planning, irrigation, garden maintenance, pest control and harvesting. Helpful handouts include how to food garden with less water, drought-tolerant crops and varieties, planting dates for spring crops, a sample garden layout and suggested vegetable varieties for Sonoma County. Pre-registration is NOT required. Rain (indoors) or shine (in the garden)!
Food Gardening Specialists are Sonoma County Master Gardeners who have additional training and, typically, personal experience in food gardening. In addition to spring and fall workshops, they consult with and provide advice to community gardens, church and school gardens, and other neighborhood groups. The specialists are volunteers and do not charge for their services. For more information, email them at [masked].
