48th NBPA Paintout - Bodega, CA

This was a fun place we haven't officially returned to in years, so it should be a good one! A cemetary seems like a weird place to paint, but there is plenty in town to see, and only a short drive to Bodega Bay if you prefer the coast.

Photos from last time we were there:

Let's meet at the Cemetery between 11am - 11:30am. This should be fun!!!

Bathroom: Not at cemetery, there's a coffee shop up the street north of the cemetery

Parking Available: Along the side of Bodega Highway (in front of cemetery). If no space available, you may have to park up the street by the Sea Gull Antique Store or Artist Co-Op building.

11:00 - 11:30am - We'll meet briefly or feel free to start painting!

11:30 - 3:30pm - Let's Paint!

3:30 - 4:00pm - Let's meet back to share our findings, techniques or just to chat (not a critique).

Questions:? Call/Text (707)[masked] or (415)[masked] or email nbpleinair(at)yahoo(dot)com

Hi Everyone, I am putting together a workshop with Phillipe Gandiol, plein air oil painter, on the weekend of November 9 and 10. It's two full days of plein air painting in Sonoma County and the price is $175. If you're not familiar with him you can look up his website at www.PhillipeGadiol.com. There is room for three more artists. I need to know asap. Thank.

Hi Char - By November 9 & 10, I am free and would love to join you. You are so good at sticking with organizing this! Thanks. Where do I send a check???

I loved it there in Bodega on Sunday, painting in the cemetery. I had a slow start in the morning with the weather. But I'd hardly call that rain. In Oregon they wouldn't even consider it a drizzle. The light was amazing. It wasn't cold or windy. A large umbrella worked good for the wettest times. I was surprised to see that only two of us were left at about 2:30 or 3:00 when I finished. I hope that Gerald or Sergio collected the NBPAP sign. I will post a photo of my finished painting soon.

Thanks to everyone that braved the rain this afternoon! Really happy to meet and chat with you all at the beginning of the paintout. Keep those photos and scan coming along. Hopefully some better rain coverage in the upcoming paintouts!

I had to call it about 4/5 of the way through my painting. There was just too much mist on my oils, even with an umbrella. I hope to finish the last bit tonight at home. It was good to see the handful of you out there!

Great but just a little misty at times--had to work a little faster--wish more painters were there!

Don't love painting in the rain. It's a long drive to discover bad conditions, so stayed home. Hope you all had fun.

I stayed at the cemetery for a while. The rain kept coming back which doesn't work with pastels well. I went to the beach for about bit too. I managed to start a few things.

I wandered down to the wildlife viewing area of the camping park. Beautiful colors in the marshes, but intermittent "fog" drizzles. Looking forward to seeing everyone's photos.

Went to Salmon Creek to paint. Didn't see anyone left when I came back to the cemetery, so now I'm on my way home. Good to see so many people who still made it out despite the rain

No one here at Bodega meetup spot. At 11:30am I will drive out closer to the coast to find a spot to paint. See ya!

Driving towards Bodega. Heavy overcast. Just started raining.

Drive safe everyone! Weather looks really nice today!

    September 29, 2013

  • Iris S.

Weather report says it's raining there now. (9:30) Don't think I'm up for driving all that way to paint in the rain. Another time, hopefully.

There's a good chance that I may not make it, when is the latest I can change my RSVP to, not attending?

    September 28, 2013

    • Sergio L.

Rsvps don't really matter for this one

      September 28, 2013

  • Cheryl H.

I was hoping to make it, but alas, not this time. Looking forward to meeting everyone at a future meetup; going to UK for two weeks. Bodega Bay is so gorgeous. Enjoy!

Thanks, Sergio. Lookin' good. Inspires me to get up there and paint.

I love the coast in Bodega, but scenes from that graveyard look good. Who did those lovely paintings?
I'll have to leave by 3:00 on Sunday, so will sadly miss the ending chat.

    1 · September 23, 2013

    • Sergio L.

Hi Iris, the paintings were done by Brent Jensen and myself, respectively.

      September 23, 2013

      You're both outstanding painters!

I have the 29th on my calender. This is a busy month. I am having an exhibit at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts starting Thur. Sept. 12 through Oct. 19th. Twenty new landscapes, also showing with me is a sculpture and there are two other galleries connected. Also I will be at the Mendocino plein air event in Sept.
Anything you choose for the NBP around the coast would be great. I like some of your suggestions below. See you soon-come visit my show!

I enjoy painting water views, too, but sometimes it can get too windy. I plan to meet at the cemetery around 11:00 & see if others would like to paint the water. I'm driving in from San Rafael... carpool, anybody?

    September 23, 2013

    • daniele

Hi Tamara. I will be driving from San Francisco. Just put out a call for carpoolers from there, but could also potentially meet w/ you in SR. Feel free to email me directly through Meetup if you like.

Would anyone like to carpool from San Francisco? I live at 25th and Clement, a straight shot to GG Bridge through the Presidio.
