North Bay Skeptics: Facebook/Meetup /Facebook/ Meetup. Meetup is a good way for people to find the group , most folks who come and check us out find us on Meetup. Meetup has easy mechanisms for posting the location and sending out reminders on meetings, and last minute emergency changes. The down side is depending on your settings i think , the "comments " on Meetup can send an email to everyone per comment , which can be annoying if it is along thread that a recipient is not interested in. So i think it is good to have both but I would recommend keeping Meetup conversations in "comments" limited . There are OTHER avenues on Meetup to have conversations other than through "comments " as some of you have found, Maybe we can review at next mtg. ; I understand some people are not comfortable with Facebook. Meetup site seems to be having some technical issues lately.

Okay, I did just find this page through the site, by clicking on the button for a discussion of the latest meeting. But it's not intuitive to me that the sort of general discussion we have here would or should be associated with a particular meeting. This site is not well-designed for much in the way of discussion. so I'm still thinking of quitting Meetup and just using FB instead...

I have strong opinions about Facebook. For other security reasons, don't have "Leave me signed in." checked.

I'm having trouble navigating the Meetup site. It doesn't seem very user-friendly. For instance, I couldn't find this page through this site; I had to find an old post from this page in my email inbox and get here through that. I'm considering quitting Meetup entirely and doing all my North Bay Skeptics business through the FB group. I wouldn't miss anything important if I did that, would I?

Who knows. It's better just to learn whatever you're doing.

Of the 19 names listed 5 are without photos . . . creates a mystery as to which person (behind the name) is posting comments. Actually if no photo is available a physical description would suffice. Maybe bring a stuffed toy and post a picture of that toy. Eventually we will be able to associate the name with the face. . . I'm just saying . . . .

Nyla- if you weren't really proposing the physical description idea, what was the concern or what would make you feel more comfortable about so many members without photos.?

No worries, I sent an email to you direct.

I was rather critical. I hope no one was offended. I did know of what I was criticizing.

It was great to be back with my peeple again! I do better when I come along with somebody who can umm....restrain my enthusiasm, and I'm sorry for that if I stepped on anybody's toes. I love this group!

Well if you're not on Facebook, more power to you. You can certainly post here on Meetup, but I think less people will see it.

Alan, you may want to join the North Bay Skeptics Facebook group, which is where most of our chatting goes on.

This is just over one minute long. I laugh so hard each time I watch it I almost fall out of my chair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJhOOQOhFME

Alan, you might like the Residents' album "Wormwood". All the songs are Bible stories, focusing on the weird and disgusting stuff, which, of course, the Bible is full of. The live show was great. Check it out:

JESUS: Luke 14:26, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters yes, even his own life he cannot be my disciple."

Unable to make this one as the first and third week of each month is extra busy for me. I just love quoting the Bible:

JESUS: Luke 19:27, "But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them, bring them here and kill them in front of me."

I'll be picking up a friend at the S.F. airport about 7 PM, so will be quite late, but will try to make it.

As posted from last week, here are a few more directions: 6 West Ninth Street, which is at the corner of West Ninth and Donahue, just a block west of Wilson (the street the old location was on). It's a very large building. Kernan's space ( where we meet) is on the 2nd floor, right on the corner. To get in, go to the second doorway from the corner on Ninth St. and push the button to alert someone to come down and let you in. (Don't worry, the secret skeptics' handshake is not required--yet.). Some people bring light snacks, cheese and crackers sort of thing, but just yourself is fine. You will probably see more people RSVP closer to the date.
