The North Central Florida Confederate Era Historians are interested in learning about the people, places and things that made up the culture, lifestyle, and events of the local old south during the era of the 1860's. In particular, we are interested in general family history and our ancestors who were involved in the Civil War in any capacity. Our group promotes the sharing of information for documenting local family trees, photo albums, written history, oral history from knowledgable family members, architectural history, and the changes of the mapping during this era. Activities include regular group meetings at locations that promote the education of these subjects. Gainesville, Florida is the primary regular meeting location but, field trips to museums, battle fields, grave yards, historical monuments, and historical buildings or other sites will be car pooled to and from as a group with field trip reviews at subsequent regular meetings for the benefit of members who cannot travel. An annual trip out of town to civil war forts including Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas will be organized for members interested in outside edu-tainment. Members will be taking pictures and video of these events and historical sites to share with each other and to use as content on websites that promote this education. One of the main activities will be "Show and Tell" of authentic family pictures, clothing, uniforms, equipment, tools, weapons (unloaded or deactivated), kitchen supplies, heirlooms, etc. These presentations will be video recorded for inclusion on the group's website to promote the growth of the group. People of all ages are invited as long as everyone can manage their behavior to not distract from the group's activity. Members will have the opportunity to give presentations to the group if their presentation skills and materials are worthy of the groups' attention. The group will communicate via email and other electronic methods so members will be most satisfied and aware if they have access to a smart phone or internet connected laptop or tablet to be able to share in the group's information at the meeting or during the field trips. Some activities will require participation and public speaking and possibly require fees to cover the costs of the activity. Otherwise, there is no formal membership fee. A reasonable expectation of kind and civil behavior is required at all times for all meeting attendees so come and bring your friends and family and expect to have fun learning something interesting about what happened and who was doing it in North Central Florida 150 years ago!
