The most popular Meal-in-a-jar recipes use every-day can-able food items to create a meal for 2-4 people in a Pint or Quart canning jar. You need to use the pressure canning method for the majority of these recipes. While I will bring a few samples of these we will not be pressure canning.
An easier/faster method is to use dehydrated or freeze dried food items to create easy to use meals in a jar or even in a Mylar bag. Advances in freeze drying technology have made it very easy to create your own meals in a jar or Mylar without the copious amounts of salt and other preservatives that are found in many store bought brands. When I buy a #10 can of chopped chicken the ingredient list is: Chicken. You can add a wide range of seasonings yourself. The downside of this technique is needing to have all the ingredients - for this workshop the ingredients, jars and Mylar will be provided.
Cost is $20 and includes the food items/ingredients, recipes for at least 2 meals (8 portions), the oxygen absorbers and jars or Mylar bags if you choose. The recipes would be slightly limited to keep cost down but we could schedule additional workshops with different ingredients if there was demand.
