Let's go out to the forest and try our skills at shooting the Milky Way! One of the easiest astrophotography subjects to capture is also one of the most impressive: the Milky Way Galaxy. Here are some links to helpful hints on how to shoot and what to bring. We will meet at the gas station and caravan to the site.
THINGS TO BRING:
CLOSED IN SHOES-IT COULD BE MUDDY
RED FLASHLIGHTS. YOU CAN COVER A REGULAR FLASHLIGHT WITH RED TAPE.
THIS IS AN ASTRONOMERS SITE AND THERE MAY BE SOME THERE. PLEASE BE MINDFUL AND DON'T USE REGULAR FLASHLIGHTS AS THEY WILL RUIN YOUR NIGHTVISION
Here are some links to information you may find helpful:
HERE IS THE LINK TO WHERE WE ARE GOING: PLEASE READ AS IT INCLUDES THEIR RULES!
********IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF THE DARK YOU MAY WANT TO PASS ON THIS******
We will meet at the Flash Foods gas station and head to Sanderson. The directions to that site are as follows:
I-10 east to exit 327(Sanderson)
Turn left on 229
Keep going until you reach Rt 90 and go over the railroad tracks (there will be a small convenience store to the right. Take the first left as soon as you cross over the tracks
Make the next right turn and you will continue on 229.
Continue about 6 miles until you see a brown sign "Osceola Wildlife Management Area" you will go .6 miles past that sign
Turn right at on 276-this sign is very small and you may miss it if you are not looking. This is a hard sand road
You will continue until you see a sign "POND ACCESS" the road may not be accessible so you can park on the road where you came in and walk back. I am including a link to my photo album on Facebook when I went out there in the daytime to scope it out
Hope to see you there! This place is amazing and very little light noise. You will see more stars than you normally see!
