Walter Jones Park and Sunset at the County Dock

Major William Webb purchased 31.2 acres on the St. Johns River in Mandarin in 1873. He built a home, barn and 1,000-foot dock extending into the St. Johns River. Major Webb cultivated oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and beans. The farm produce was shipped north on steamships that regularly stopped in Mandarin. Major Webb played an active role in the community, which by 1881 had a population of 1,200 people, 300 white residents and 900 black residents

We will meet at Walter Jones parking lot off Mandarin Road, get some photos of the park, then walk to the dock for the Sunset at 8:28pm. Lots of cool photo ops here! What to bring:

It was just an ok sunset, wish the cloud that hide the sun was not as water filled. Great group of photographers.

If you know what you're doing, you can make a "little" camera do BIG things!

Pretty good sunset, glad the rain took a hike! Sorry if I missed anyone. I think the address led everyone to the dock and I was waiting at the main parking lot!

The weather channel makes it look like it is raining there now. But it may clear up by 7. Can we ask the guy that said he lives near there about the weather around 6:30?

One of my favorite Sunset parks and it just a few miles from my house. I shot the sunset last night there. A guest pass to my Water Jones Sunset Flickr account. https://www.flickr.com/gp/ic_d_photos/5E1v1z/

I notice the hours for the park is until sunset. Any problem with us staying until 9:00? I noticed I got more sky color after sundown at the river sunset.

I always stay an hour after sunset and have never had a problem. They don't have any gates. There are always people fishing there after dark
