During this meetup we'll learn how to start developing games for the Microsoft XBOX 360 using Microsoft .NET and Microsoft XNA. The technology is fun, powerful, and probably a whole lot easier to use than you think it might be. We'll look at examples and build a simple game during the session. Finally, we'll discuss how the technology can be used in non-gaming applications for scientific and data visualization. This meeting will be pretty cool. There is a good bit to cover so it might run a few minutes over the normal hour but everyone's free to bail whenever. If you want to bring your computers along and build the game or play with XNA yourself, you'll need the following:
- Visual Studio 2008 or Visual Studio Express (I'm sure 2010 will work fine but I haven't tried it)
- XNA Game Studio 3.1 - http://creators.xna.c...
- A working knowledge of C#.NET
You'll be able to deploy and play with the software on your computer, but I'll also bring an XBOX 360 that we'll be able to deploy the game to so we can play directly on the XBOX. If we have enough time hopefully we can blow each other up in a multi-player game we build.
