***Special note for today only***: The annual Temescal Street Fair is being held from noon to 6:00, so weather permitting we'll set up tables so we can play in front of the store, where hopefully we can pick up some new players from among the thousands of people attending.
Welcome to go in North Oakland!
We strive for a casual, friendly playing atmosphere. We have a number of sets available, but would appreciate it if players bring their own to make sure we have enough to go around.
If you don't know the rules yet, before you attend please check out the excellent interactive tutorial here. Of course we're still happy to teach people from scratch.
For new players, especially kids, I'm happy to come at 10:00 AM to teach the basics in an undistracting atmosphere. It takes at most an hour to learn, including an initial small-board game. To do this, please give me at least 24 hours notice at [masked].
Well-behaved children are welcome, but should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
There is no fee for playing, but donations to help the store defray the expense of the playing space are much appreciated.
Please note that this 11:00 AM-3:00 PM Sunday time is for hosted play, and that the store's large open playing space is available for folks to come in and play chess or any of over a hundred other open-box games any time the store is open (11:00 AM-7:00 PM Tuesday-Thursday, 11:00 AM-midnight Friday (see below), and 10:00 AM-7:00 PM Saturday-Sunday).
Every Friday night from 7:00 PM-midnight is Open Game Night at the store, a great time to find other people to play all kinds of games, go included.
Hope to see you there!
