Craft n Sew while you Swap/Sell or Give away your Craft Stash!

It is finally spring!  We feel the change in the air and some of us have been going through our homes and cleaning out items we just haven't used or want anymore.

This is your opportunity with items such as used or new craft/sewing products, and you choose from three categories of either swapping them with someone else who you barter with, straight up give it away or sell them for a nominal price. Absolutely no item can be sold for profit as this is a public library and is against the public library rules.

You are not limited to craft/sewing items.  There are things such as yarn, fibers, sheets or other fabric, wool sweaters, glass bottles, candle or soap making products, wooden craft items, etc.

If you prefer to come and sew, craft or just come to socialize, everyone is absolutely welcome.   There is no obligation to participate in the swap/sale.  Also please tell friends and family they are welcome to stop by and we would love it if they hauled off some of our product for us!

The rules are simple, bring in your items, and if you are giving them away, we will have one, two or more tables that will be items that are free for anyone to go and take.  If you prefer to swap or sell your items, they will stay at your table and you are responsible for those exchanges.

What will happen to your items when the day is over?  This is up to you.  You may donate them yourself to your charity of choice; if you brought in books, you can donate them to the library; you can take your items back home with you, or if there are appropriate items you would like to donate to Green Lake Elementary School, Donna is willing to deliver the supplies to that school.  Last year Green Lake kids received a lot of fun crafting supplies and the teachers were thrilled to receive them.  Northwest Center Child Development due to the lease issue on Queen Anne is not taking craft donations at this time,  They were the second recipients of the craft swap/haul we had last year.  If you have a different school you prefer to donate to, you are welcome to take your items to the school of your choice and donate.

This should be a fun day with some creative endeavor going on, but also lots of wonderful conversations, so hope to see everyone there!

Great fun. Lots of different craft items, with the people right there to ask how they are used!

The only reason for 3 stars is because I didn't sell much. Wanted to recover some of the money I'd spent. Otherwise it was fun, good chats with lots of people (and I did acquire some freebie silk textile samples!)

Amy, have you tried posting on the message board over on Seattle Handmade to sell off your items you want to destash? I just saw an item that was posted for sale and it made me think of your comment. It's a free venue as well as yesterday where there is no cost to at least try. If the items are scrapbooking related, try giving Mimi's Crop Circle in Burien a call. Some LSSs allow items to be sold on consignment. They are closed Monday but you can try Tues through Sat. mimiscropcircle.com Good luck in finding a way to get that craft stash out of your home!

Hi! Any interest in "naturals," e.g. pine cones, seed pods, sea shells, etc.? I'd love to gift these to someone(s) who'd actually use them for wreaths and other decorative projects - it's about time I let them go to concentrate on my current interests.

Jane, it was wonderful to see you and thank you for the rubber stamps! I already stamped them (with my clothes on though:) and the others I acquired in my catalog and have them put away. My niece was so excited when I let her know I have pine cones for her. She was so excited to be able to get started early on her firestarter gift making.

Jill, it is my pleasure to provide something to nibble on while everyone enjoys their meetup time. I love to cook and bake and this just gives me the excuse to get my baking art on!

    Hi!
I have been wanting to come to your meetup for awhile. I confess - I have a craft store binge problem. I buy way more than I can ever use! I am hoping to donate some paper crafting items to a good cause, because I have decided to focus on beads. See you there!

Hello, I have quite a bit of fabrics and quilt squares I will never do anything with it. But I also have fabric I bought off craigs list for 20.00 if anyone is interested I bought it because I thought I could make a jacket but my bf hated the idea. So if anyone is Interested let me know. It comes on a row and there is more than 3 yards for sure!! I look forward to meeting everyone. I am also willing to trade whatever I have for yarn. I have a huge stash and I want to watch it grow lol!

I don't have a receipt so I actually don't know how to prove I bought it for 20.00 is that OK??

I'll be bringing whatever I don't sell at the Mill Creek Garage Sale. Papers, stamps, punches, finished pages, etc. See you all Sunday.

I'll be late (have a class downtown until 2), but will bring some fabric and beads. Maybe other stuff (books...) if I figure out what is duplicated. Hope everyone is not trade-numb by then.

I should have some papers and stuff for scrapbooking and similar crafts. And who knows what else I can find to bring!
Darcy: I will have a few pairs of jeans for your quilt (donated by my husband).

I'm bringing a TON of fabric - new quilting cottons, and a ton of upholstery samples (great for totes and purses and patch pockets), and some misc. assorted.

I would also like to suggest that since the library does not allow us to sell for profit, that you could sell still sell for cost or slightly above and donate the profit portion to Donna to help defray the expenses of running this group we all enjoy so much (Thank you Donna!!). Then we aren't selling for profit and everyone wins!

Can we sell for the price on the tag - cost?

      April 10, 2014

    • Donna H.

if the price on the tag is your cost, that's fine, it's the profit making that is prohibited.

I have some fabrics and an applique that an old lady in a nursing home gave me, with the express request that it be used to make a baby blanket for a shelter or charity program. I have neither the time nor inclination to start this now, would anyone like to take it and use it specifically for that? It is not enough fabric by itself, fyi...
