We love everything technology (old or new), are willing to wait in line to see the new Burton, Cameron, Jackson, Scott, or Spielberg flick on opening night (with no shame for smuggling in snacks from the grocery store) and love role-playing in whatever form it takes: pen and paper, live-action or online. We have clothing (not costumes) in our closet that would fit well in the 16th century or the 23rd century. We can master any interest that piques our curiosity, whether it be making crème brulee from scratch (kitchen torch!) or building a trebuchet (launch stuff!).
If you are searching for a group where you can enjoy activities such as conventions (sci-fi, ren, comic, steam punk, harry potter, etc.), movies (sci-fi, zombie, horror, fantasy), reenactments (civil war, star wars), museums, Shakespeare plays, cemetery photography, ghost tours, poetry readings and trustees of reservation sites/activities - then this is the place for you!
This group has activities for all ages, including family friendly events. If an event is family friendly, it will have "FF" in the Meetup title.
Come let your geek flag fly!
You know you're a geek if...
- Anyone has said to you: "You’re Ephixa?!?! You pwned me the Sen’jin battlegrounds!" (insert the appropriate substitutions for your own MMORPG).
- You not only know what an MMORPG is but you beta tested and then became a moderator.
- You paid $6000 for your computer and $500 for your car.
- You renamed all of the characters on "The Big Bang Theory" with your friend’s names.
- Someone mentions the Q Continuum, and you know what that means.
- You get really excited that your mixer has a dough hook.
- You design detailed floor plans before moving all of your furniture around.
- You say phrases like "Make it so!" and "These aren't the droids you're looking for," when you talk to people.
- You plot to get your grandmother on Facebook.
- You think Youtube could use a video of a Gangman Style Star Wars flash mob.
- Felicia Day: If you’re a guy, you want to date her, if you’re a girl, you want to be her.
- You met your partner at a gaming convention or a ren-faire or a comic book store.
You’re a geek with kids if…
- You had a Star Wars theme for your baby shower.
- You are planning another pregnancy, you calculate your due date to not conflict with PAX East.
- You shout out “Frak” to avoid the other “F” word in front of your kids.
- You and your partner don’t spell out words like other parents to avoid having your kids know what you’re talking about. Instead, you just speak Klingon.
- You look forward to Christmas to put together the kid’s toys.
- You researched and/or developed your own family crest.
- You use a CAD package to design your child's pine wood derby car.
- Your three year old asks why the sky is blue and you try to explain atmospheric absorption theory.
- You research your kids Halloween costume for authenticity and sew/build it yourself.
- You still you have more toys than your kids.
