Day Trip ~ Old Orchard Beach - AMTRAK - Downeaster

  • No location was chosen

  • AMTRAK

    “THE DOWNEASTER"

Taking you there.......OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME

Let's do a repeat of this fun day event!  We did this last year and had a blast!!!  Beach day was great and the day went by quickly:)  We had ladies hop on in Boston, Woburn and Haverhill.

    The Downeaster:

After nearly 50 years, train service has resumed to Maine. In 2002 the train resumed its seasonal scheduled stop in Old Orchard Beach. Trains are now traveling eight times daily between Boston to Portland. Old Orchard Beach is a seasonal stop that will be open from May through late October.

Orchard Beach’s train stop, adjacent to the current Chamber of Commerce Building, is just 100 yards from the beach and numerous beachfront accommodations, allowing for a car-free vacation at the beach.

Beginning in 2005, visitors will be greeted at the all-new Visitors Welcome Center compliments of the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce. The new building will house a Visitor’s Reception and Information area, public restrooms, offices and function room for the Chamber of Commerce staff and members.

Train service first began to Old Orchard Beach over 159 years ago in 1842 and continued until the mid 1900’s.

For more information on “Downeaster” rail service to Old Orchard Beach contact Amtrak at: 1-800-USA-RAIL [masked]) or visit them on the web at:

    Train 688 leaves Old Orchard at 8:10 p.m. arrives Woburn 10:02 p.m.

You can pre-purchase tickets or buy them at station:  Cost $36.00 - $40.00 they may offer you a discount when you book your ticket, (Senior Discount and AAA discounts offered).

    Old Orchard Beach:

With over 40 restaurants and eateries gracing the Old Orchard Beach area, one of the greatest dilemmas is deciding where to eat. Everything from roadside clamshacks to fine dining overlooking the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. We have it all! Fried clams, steamers, prime rib, pizza, Chinese, Greek, Mexican, Italian and, of course, lobster prepared a dozen different ways are just a few of the many dining options.

Our seven-mile long stretch of wide sandy beach is understandably the major attraction. But when visiting Old Orchard Beach there is a full range of things available to see and do in and around the Old Orchard Beach area.

I have to cancel as of right now, but if thing improve with Physical Therapy, I hope to be able to go. Right now, trouble walking even a block. Have fun guys! I really enjoyed it last year, despite my "flying" lobster roll!
