Let's Hike Salem Woods

I found this place doing some research online. Looks interesting. Please look at this map and brochure: http://www.salemwoods.org/Documents/SWTrailGuide.pdf . I like how its laid out like a self-guided tour.

We can meet in the Salem HS parking lot: http://www.salemwoods.org/map.htm

If anyone has been here and can lend any insight, please do.

Will cancel by 8am on 11/10/12 in case of inclement weather or muddy conditions.

We could do lunch afterwards for anyone interested. There are plenty of place along Highland Avenue.

No other parking lot at the beach. you park along the beach. meet out front of Red Rock Bistro at 10. We don't have to walk the entire way to Nahant we can turn back at any time if that is too much. Pat, are you good with the directions? Do you know where you are going? I am not great with directions but I do know how to get there from Beverly.

Let's try the beach location. So we meet at Red Rock Bistro?? Is there another parking lot at the beach? Any help from those more knowledgeable.

It looks like a long walk from Red Rock to the end of Nahant Beach - about 3.4 miles each way.

Go to this website and click on the 'reservation map'. Lets meet at the Ward Bathouse - there appears to be parking. From there to the end of the neck is about 1.5 miles each way. We could go a little farther if we want.

Thanks Chris. I thought it looked marshy. Does anyone have an suggestions for a venue that may be a little less wet? We have lots of rain/snow predicted for the end of the week.

how about the sidewalks along nahant/swampscott beach. it is a looongg walk to nahant and back and the sidewalks are wide and the view is pretty

Kim - I already made the decision for the beach location.

Lake is closer to me, but Nahant sounds more interesting, so I guess I'm ok with either.

Can you let us know where the venue will be by tomorrow? I will more than likely not attend if in Wakefield as the appeal of this original location in Salem was its proximity to home; I have a time crunch for later in the day. Thanks so much, Pat.

Lisa - OK, like I said, I am unfamiliar with the area but will give it a try. Ladies - please express your preference for Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield or Swampscott/Nahant Beach.

there is parking along the beach; maybe meet at red rock bistro in swampscott and walk towards nahant beach which is really long. you follow route 1a/beaches. not too goood at giving directions but one could mapquest Red Rock Bistro in Swampscott and park near there meet out front

Kim - Sounds like a viable option.

Lisa - What do you mean? Park in Swampscott and walk to Nahant? I really don't have a lot of familiarity with that area.

Sally - I have never been there and can't tell from the map how long the loop is. Does anyone know?

I plan on going by there on Friday to check it out (weather permitting). It sounds like the place is marshy so is we gets lots of precipitation later in the week, we may have to switch venues.
