Volunteer and serve breakfast at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans

I volunteer a couple of times a month serving lunch at the shelter. Great group of men and women who have served our country and have come back needing a little help. The Center, which was started by a Veteran, provides housing, health care, social services, food, as well as a multitude of other services for our returning heroes. They have volunteer groups come in on weekends and do breakfast service. We don't provide the food, just smiles and friendly faces. The serving starts at 7:15am and we would be done by around 9. We have gone as a group several times and hope to keep this up monthly, there's a limit to 6 servers each time. It's really a wonderful time. Some of the ladies asked about baking/bringing something. I also spoke with the head of the kitchen....just avoid things with nuts because of allergies. Hope to see you all then! We can carpool, it's near the Orange line and if you drive in you can park right in front. Also remember a hat, you need to have your head/hair covered to serve.

Ladies, supposed to not be the greatest of weather tomorrow morning....if you are concerned about driving, don't chance it. My cell # is[masked], please feel free to call or text me. I'll be getting up around 5:15 to head out to do pancakes, if it's too bad then, I'll cancel and send out a comment, so please check here before heading in.

Since Ivana is doing pancakes and syrup, and I've only gotten one offer for food besides my own, I think I'll try to provide the fresh fruit another time we visit.

I am going to have to leave the waitlist, but this sounds like another special breakfast! They will be so happy, great idea.

Karmen, I'm actually going to be making pancakes this weekend with strawberries (they'll come out pinkish, perfect for Valentine's day) I am also doing syrup. If you all could do the other fruit that'll be awesome. If I can get to the store beforehand, I'll try to grab some other fruit as well.

What a great idea. I know they will appreciate it. On on the waitlist so I can't offer anything this round.

    Hello ladies,
I would like to propose something for this Sunday - could we each bring in one type of cut fruit and mix it together for a nice fresh treat for the folks? I OKd it with the staff last time I was there. Their response was actually, "Wow! That would be so great!". I'll offer to do pineapple. Please let me know your thoughts/willingness to donate fruit/concerns. Thanks!
