Volunteer and serve breakfast at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans

I volunteer a couple of times a month serving lunch at the shelter. Great group of men and women who have served our country and have come back needing a little help. The Center, which was started by a Veteran, provides housing, health care, social services, food, as well as a multitude of other services for our returning heroes. They have volunteer groups come in on weekends and do breakfast service. We don't provide the food, just smiles and friendly faces. The serving starts at 7:15am and we would be done by around 9.  We have gone as a group several times and hope to keep this up monthly, there's a limit to 6 servers each time. It's really a wonderful time. Some of the ladies asked about baking/bringing something. I also spoke with the head of the kitchen....just avoid things with nuts because of allergies. Hope to see you all then! We can carpool, it's near the Orange line and if you drive in you can park right in front. Also remember a hat, you need to have your head/hair covered to serve.

OK I'm going to likely get grapes, berries, plums, etc. We'll have a nice bunch of fruit for them. Thanks again

Oh great, thanks ladies for the donations! I'll be getting a bunch of fruit as well and see about bringing some more treats. We were going to try and do eggs benedict, but our plan was sidetracked a bit due to the weather, the place couldn't do the egg delivery. We'll save that for next time, but I was hoping to do extra anyways. You are the best~!!!! See you on Sunday.

Ivana - I think the original idea was each volunteer bring in one type of fruit cut up and then we mix all together to make a fruit salad. I will get a few melons.

Hi ladies....I've been speaking to our favorite cook on Sunday's, Mike. We were trying to coordinate something special to bring in for the folks this weekend. We decided to do some fresh fruit. I know Karmen suggested it once before, but I'll be going and getting a bunch of stuff this weekend and may also look at trying to do some baked treats. If you want to bring in something, fruit would be great. See all of you Sunday.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
