Introduction

Hi! I'm a wine enthusiast who loves getting out and trying new wine bars, new restaurants and meeting new people. I have an busy schedule, so I don't RSVP unless I'm certain I can attend. That means I won't RSVP to a lot, but when I do, I will look forward to enjoying the experience. I grew up within a two-hour drive of Napa Valley to the north and the Monterrey, CA area to the south, so I've been an oenophile since I was legal to drink. I really dislike people who get snooty about their wine knowledge, though. To me, a good wine is a wine that you like, regardless of its price, its reputation or what other people say about it.

What kind of wines do you like ? Be as specific as possible...

Fruit forward reds with nice complexity but not too much oak. A little spice is always nice as long as it is smooth and full-bodied. Malbecs, Pinot Noirs, Cabernets, Syrahs, Merlots, etc.

What kind of wine tastings and events would you like to see planned for this group?

I like smaller groups in smaller venues so you actually get a chance to meet and talk with new people instead of being lost in a crowd. With that said, festivals are always fun! I also like "educational" events, where one can learn such things as aroma identification, differences in terroir, etc.

Why did you choose to join this group instead of one of the other wine groups on Meetup?

It looked a little more organized and I liked the admonition that if you RSVP, you are expected to follow through. I like that people will be removed if their inattention affects other people and/or the venues selected. I don't have a lot of opportunities because my schedule is so busy, so I really hate signing up for something and finding it canceled because others were inconsiderate (which makes me sound like a prig, but I'm really not! I've just been disappointed a few too many times.)

Describe a wine tasting that was memorable.

I had the opportunity to visit Sydney, Australia on business and take a little vacation time as well. I did a lovely tour of the Hunter Valley in a small tour bus (15 people) that visited four small wineries, one of which also had a dairy attached. The wine and cheese pairings were the best I've ever tried, the area was beautiful, and the tour group was a wonderful group of people. One of the best wine tours I've ever done!
