In an attempt to give our members access to as many interesting and varied sites and locations as possible, we bring you something quite unique...White Elephant Ranch!
You can find its location on a Google Maps search and if you do, you will notice that it is not near an airport, city or any other major public interest. This means we are UNRESTRICTED and we are in Class G airspace. Normal common sense and safety rules must still apply, but you can fly your drone with waypoints, take your best photos and bring your biggest sized drone without worry.
Mr. Guy Compton is himself a drone enthusiast and owns this piece of land. He will be providing electricity via a generator (or two), 3 choices of take off and landing sites as well as a flatbed trailer that only a Semi truck could haul! In addition, Unmanned Research (a non-profit start-up company) will provide a very nice 20 foot long Ground Control Station for your use and perusal!
For those of you who would like something to do with your drone, Mr. Compton would greatly appreciate it if you could find the feral hogs on his land. Find their ruts, where they drink water and the grand prize, where they are located!
Bring any creature comforts you would like. We would suggest snacks, drinks, tents for shade, chairs and maybe even some spare parts. RV's are welcome, camping overnight is welcome and ALL drone types as well as regular RC is welcome! Bring the kids!
Cell reception is outstanding, but it is an AT&T tower. My iPhone gets a very strong 5 bar signal. Hot spots will be provided via private cell phones. Bathrooms are limited, bring your extension cord too!
The gate will be open and the lawn mowed so come on in and be amongst other drone users and your new friends! Event end time will be when it is too dark to fly!
PS: We all know someone will bring something broke, NO PROBLEM! Bring it too!
**This event is rain or shine. If our venue is a wash-out, for weather or politics, an alert will be announced/posted.
The site selection committee is always looking for new and varied flying sites. If you have one in mind, or even a suggestion on what to look for send me a message to add it to a site list. If possible, please provide a description of the field, a google/bing map link, and a point of contact for that location (if there is one.)
Please send me a message if you would like to serve on the site selection committee as well. The committee will meet briefly, via in person or VOIP, once or twice a month as needed to consider and select locations for the group.
Keep it safe, we look forward to seeing you (and all of your fingers) at the flight line.
