Hike to Five Mile Camp @ Texoma

  • to

  • Cedar Bayou Marina

513 Cedar Bayou Blvd., Gordonville, TX (map)

    33.842111 -96.850397

  • Travel time is about 2 hours from the mid-cities.

We will meet at Cedar Bayou Marina and hit the trail no later than 2:00PM. It is about a  2.5 mile hike to Five Mile Camp where we will camp for the night. Difficulty level is moderate (some may say easy, but for some may be moderate, consider your fitness level), trail is hilly. You will need to backpack in all your supplies and equipment (i.e. shelter, food, cooking equip...). Bringing in your water is a good idea, you can filter from the lake but it's not very tasty.  Please have your dog on a leash while hiking.

Sunday morning we can head out and maybe do a BBQ place before returning home.

Cross Timbers Hiking Trail begins in Juniper Point recreation area and winds west some 14 miles along the southern shoreline of the lake through Cedar Bayou and Paw Paw Creek resorts to Rock Creek Camp. Between Juniper Point and Cedar Bayou the hiker travels high above the lake on the rocky ledges that make up the shoreline. From these high vantage points one is refreshed by beautiful views of the lake and its shores.  We will be able to view the shoreline on the hike back!

I so ready to get more involved, and I don't mind the rain chances, but I've had something important come up. Looking forward to other trips!

Is 5 mile camp the one that has the large boulders that you scramble down to reach the lake from the camp?

Unfortunately something came up and we won't make it. We hope things open up for us next month so we can get back to camping. Sorry.

Is the plan to hike 14 miles after getting to camp on Saturday?

    March 11, 2013

Typically, we use the hike in and out as practice runs for new gear, people etc. Occasionally we have folks who want to hike beyond the typical campsite for the evening and you are free to do so.

Johnny is correct. I just copy/pasted a description of the trail. The planned hike is Marina to campsite. Any more is optional
