The heat FINALLY winds down at the end of September, and we dare to venture outdoors during the daylight, let's give some love to the oft forgotten other side of Lake Ray Roberts State Park, the Johnson Branch unit.
This part of the park is on the north side of the lake and offers similar amenities to the much more crowded Isle du Bois on the southern shore. Volleyball courts, swim beach, hiking trail, showers, pit toilets...you'll miss nothing camping on this side of the lake! But you will enjoy the peace and quiet.
We will be staying at Dogwood Canyon because it hosts the best tent camping sites available. These sites are no water/electricity sites. (Water is available from 2 taps in the campground) Reservations are available online through TPWD. Two tents are allowed per site, so talk to someone else who is coming and buddy up!
I can promise you there will be no shortage of good stories, fun people, and laughter. Bring your favorite camp food, and beverage (whatever it may be...) and camp chair. FIREWOOD GATHERING IS PROHIBITED so be an awesome North Texas Outdoors-person and bring some FIREWOOD. There is a precedence of awesome campfires with this group, we can't disappoint this time!
