Dates: May 10 - 15
Cost: Less than $500 including plane ticket (assuming you have backpacking gear) The $50 is for car rental and to hold your spot on the trip. It may change once we get the details nailed down and find out what the actual camp fees are.
Duration: May 10-May 15
Location: Hoh Rain forest in the Olympic National Park to Olympus Ranger Station camp out and back, as well as the "Ozette Triangle".
Although we love kids, this will be an age 15 and over event.
The Hoh Rain forest is the only temperate rain forest in the Lower 48 and is considered one of the top 20 must do hikes in the WORLD. I have pictures of my hike from here if you are interested in looking. We would fly in, rent a car or two, depending on interest, then drive to the national park. There are many campgrounds along the way if our timing puts us into darkness before arriving at the park- this will all be planned out. The drive alone is insanely gorgeous and it gives me chills and grins even thinking back on it!
Foreseen cost- Plane ticket to Seattle (SEA), provisions, car rental, gas, back country permits. The hike itself will be very carefully planned out with maps and everyone will have a part in keeping the group safe and secure. These hikes will be about 10 miles long, but will be generally flat and should not be too strenuous. Appropriate shoes and clothing will be necessary to ford small creeks and rivers as well as withstand rain and cooler weather. Bear canisters will be required at all campgrounds. The ranger stations have some to loan, more details later.
If time is left, and I really hope it is, we could day hike on Ruby Beach on the Pacific coast. I have hiked both of these areas before, and all I can say is that they are truly breath taking! Ive felt the lure back there since the moment I left!
