The Rematch - Meridian State Park - Tour Texas! ★

This is the rematch for the meetup that was cancelled last year by the ice-a-ggedon.

We will be staying in the water/electric Cross Timbers Campground sites 9-15 (look for the sites without sewer on the site).  ELECTRICITY = PURE LUXURY!  Sites are $20 per nite.

Monthly car-camping adventure touring Texas' State Parks. Bring kids, dogs, and everything that will fit in the car.

Meridian State Park is 70 miles south of Fort Worth on the northern edge of the Hill Country. This is a small and quiet park, and features a fully enclosed lake and hiking trails.

--------------------------------------------

It's car camping, so bring your luxury items. Big tent, big bag, and lots of good food. Campfire games and adult beverages are always welcome. Just remember to put your beverage in an alternate container. State parks have a strict 'no public consumption of alcohol' policy.

You can reserve a campsite on Texas Parks and Wildlife's website, however, they will not allow you to reserve a particular primitive site. You'll be asked your preference of site when you check in at the park. Consider sharing a ride and a camping site with another NTO-er.

The first person to check in should post their site number on this meetup page under the comments after checking in, that way we can all get sites near one another.

Bring a canoe or kayak; Lake Meridian is a no wake lake. Fishing poles are a good idea too. No need for a fishing license to fish on this lake.

Firewood gathering is prohibited in all Texas State Parks. Please bring firewood so we may continue our tradition of awesome NTO campfires.

The itinerary for these Tour Texas! adventures is standard:

Friday:
3:00 - 7:00 Early Bird check-in and camp set up
7:00 - 9:00 Dinnertime
9:00 - ? Campfire Fun

Saturday:
7:00 - 9:00 Camp Breakfast
9:00 - 5:00 Latecomer Camp Setup & Park Exploration
5:00 - 7:00 Dinnertime
7:00 - ? Campfire Fun

Sunday:
7:00 - 9:00 Camp Breakfast
9:00 -10:00 Break Camp
10:00 - Conclusion of Meetup, you can explore, hangout, or head home.

I'm trying to not make this a trend but my back and neck are not cooperating with my spirit! I will have to back out of this one (pun intended). Trying to make sure my spine is in shape for the April backpacking trip! Have fun, stay warm and dry.

    January 16, 2015

    • Kib R.

Sorry to hear that. Can I take your site reservation then? Please don't cancel it. I'll pay you back.

      January 16, 2015

    • jemy m.

Hi Kib - you can take it. I'll PM you the reservation if you still need it. Don't worry about refunding the fee - you can give it to Della for voluntary dues.

  • LNicole

Hi All, I'm Lacey, 26 years old, and I am new to DFW from upstate New York. I am excited to find this group, as I love the outdoors and am looking to meet people who share the same interests. I am interested in this weekend's adventure! I have a tent and a +1 (b/f). I would be able to come Saturday and stay until Sunday. Does anyone have room for an additional tent? If not, should I find a site in a different location? Thank you all! :)

    January 15, 2015

    • Steve

Hey Kib- bring Cards against Humanity if you can. I enjoyed played that at Eisenhower.

      January 16, 2015

    • Craig

Ok, LNicole. Here is the deal. Karen S is not able to make it. Too many tents not an issue. BUT, on my way I'm making 2 stops at a grave yard and historical marker to get information I need for cache locations in the park. You might arrive before me. If so, the reservation is under Craig Wheeler. You can pay the park the remainder of the reservation fee and chose a site then text me the number at[masked]-2236. OR pay to go in, hang out with someone else and when I arrive I'll complete the reservation, grab a site then you come find me. I'll be the only one with my name on a SUV. Easy to spot. And why didn't I just PM this to you you ask? Because I'm not getting emails from Meetup on PM's but am on thread comments. Perhaps everyone else is as well.

      January 16, 2015

  • Kristin

I just checked in. I am in site 9. Someone else from our group is in 11.

    January 16, 2015

  • Emmi M.

Hey everyone, it looks like the person I asked to share a site with will not be attending. Sad face. Does anyone have room for me, my tent, my pup and friend Laura?

    January 16, 2015

    • Emmi M.

Okay cool beans. No worries Gary you know I still love you!

This stinks but I'm going to have to back out of this trip. I'm going on vacation to Florida next week and I still have a lot to do. I hope everyone has a great time see you at the next trip

Just so they didnt have to ask that uncomfortable question.

Don't trust the meetup app to get you to the park. For some reason, it wants to navigate you to Arkansas. Use the mobile meetup website or the tpwd park page for directions.

    2 · January 14, 2015

  • Della M.

Okay folks, I nabbed the last two sites available. So I have space at one site, and another is up for grabs. Both sites are reserved for Friday and Saturday. Total cost for the site is $40.

Are we going to rock the house again?! Bring your overnight stuff, we will make room for you and Kelly.

I just changed my reservation from December to the January date. They charged me $5 to process the change!
