End of the World retreat

So according to the Mayans the world is ending 12/21/12, I would just hate to miss a camping day before we all go to meet our maker. Join me in celebrating the "End of the World" with bonfire, dinner and drinks somewhere in the wilderness. The date and location might change but the party will go on. And if by chance the world does not end we can all go home and return to work at our pointless jobs and wait for the slow hand of time to take us away. Either way we'll get a backpacking day in, and all will be well with the world.

This event is a short trip backpack, approx 1 hour from the marina. That  means you must support yourself. We will be primitive camping, NO bathrooms, No restaurants, NO water, No shelter will be provided. So bring a tent or find a tent buddy, sleeping stuff, great eats to cook over the fire or pack a sandwich, your fav alcohol drink, flashlights and personal care items.  If you are going to want an item you got to carry it in did I mention water (.5 gallon min).  After camp is set we have a community wood gathering for 30 min, the rest of the evening will be spent contemplating the end of the world as we know it while we sit a round the fire and enjoying spirits..lol.  If the world has not ended during the night we will hike out in the morning.

Okay, it looks like I will be getting there late. Due to my over booked work, I will have to work a little bit before heading out. If anyone needs anything, call me. [masked]-08274. See everyone tomorrow.

May we bring our dogs, or must we suffer the end of the world without our mutts?

    December 18, 2012

    • Scott

We don't mind dogs, good trail dogs are always welcome. But it really depends on the dog and owner. By that I mean "if" your dog will not bother other campers while they are laying out food for dinner, if your dog does not charge everyone walking out of the woods in the dark, barking endlessly, pissing on tents, we have had dozens and dozens of dogs on the trips. It can be great or a big headache. The main thing is not everyone is a dog fan so if you see your dog being a bother tie it up so everyone is happy-happy-happy. If your dog can not be restrained dont bring it, We are a people group first. Hope this helps.

Sure does. One of my mutts fit the bill, the other one might have to sit this one out. Thanks for the info!

This is a real event. There is 5.00 fee to park at the marina or on the roadside. Please read the details listed for the event and prepare accordingly. We always have a blast. Here is the venue: hike in / set-up / gather wood / happy hour / prepare dinner / party like it’s the last night on earth / sleep . LOL See you on the trail. If you show up late, find your way to 5 mile camp. Does anybody have a grill to bring?…… happy hour snacks to share ..............and remember dont
's shine your headlamp in everyons face, hang it around your neck in group settings.....Peace out.....

Based on my calculations the world will be doomed at 5:11am on the 21st. Thats the early hours before dawn. This is based on the count down clock, http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?day=21&month=12&year=2012&hour=11&min=11&sec=11&p0=0
Feel free to check my math on this one... I might be asleep so wake me up if the earth starts to split open or something.....

Why can't the end of the world be on a Sunday night or Monday morning? Why does it have to be just before the weekend?!?!

Cool. Ill go. It's easy to work in to my schedule.

My work schedule has changed. We shall see...one day should be fine. Unless the world ends.....

Note: I cannot find a actual "time" to meet there. Will we meet in the morning, afternoon or evening?

    December 6, 2012

    • Bob S.

      Nevermind....just found it 2:00PM.

Since usually half the people who sign up show up anyway, Why not open the limit to 100 spots and anticipate that only half will show up? I think since this event is during a work week that more than most might not make it to this event. Just a thought...

I was looking at the calender and wondered if we are to meet there on the 20th, What time? Also if the 21'st is on a Friday, Why not stay an extra night? That is just in case the world ends late on the 21st.

    November 11, 2012

  • Bob S.

I know we are suppose to bring our own stuff but what about community items if we share? For example: Portable potty, table, bottle of wine (to share) etc? Just wondering..

    November 6, 2012

  • Bob S.

Ok, The world is suppose to end 12/21/2012. If we leave that morning we might miss it? Haha. Just in case you really don't know why Dec. 21st...It is winter solstic. The lowest point in the sky for the sun at noon. 34 deg. above the herizon at our Lattitude. Anyway, I am looking forward to this trip and will be geared to go. I will be leaving from Hillsboro so anyone is welcome to ride with me. I have three spots in my suv.

Is there anyone carpooling? I am directionally challenged and hate to miss this. I live in Lewisville and would love to tag along. I'll reimburse for gas. :)

    • Carl

I signed up for the event but I'm not sure at the moment if I can make it. If I can I'm up for carpooling.
