ABOUT “THE NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB"”:
THE NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB events are group social outings that just happen to be a great opportunity to meet like minded people interested in the outdoors. We are not a dating or singles group but rather an adventure club with the emphasis on socializing while enjoying the outdoors. You will enjoy and are welcome to attend our events if you are sincere about wanting to make friends while appreciating the outdoors.
ORGANIZERS: Organizers describe the hikes/events to the best of their ability and stick to the description as much as possible, since that is what people signed up for; However, sometimes the plan will change due to uncontrollable circumstances like trail closures, bad weather or other unforeseen reasons. Make sure to read the organizer's description of the event as it explains what to expect for that particular hike/event.
QUESTIONS: Each event is organized independently. If you have a question regarding a particular event, contact the organizer "OF THAT EVENT" directly. They are the only ones that can answer specific questions about the event. Additionally, make sure to read the event description as your question can often be answered this way. Asking your questions by email rather than as a "Greeting" is the quickest and most effective method of receiving a response. If you don't receive an answer to your question, it means that your question can be answered by reading the event description or the "ABOUT US" page you are reading now.
RULES, POLICIES AND OTHER INFORMATION FOR THE NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB MEMBERS:
PROFILE PHOTOS AND PROFILE NAME:
Event organizers want to know who is attending their event as do the other participants. It is customary that members upload a personal photo that visibly shows who they are. This allows everyone to recognize one another the day of the event. Some organizers may require that anyone attending their event must have a main photo that shows who they are as a person. Therefore, all NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB members are strongly advised to upload a personal photo of themselves on their profile and have the name on the profile be their actual personal name.
ATTENDANCE at our events is at the discretion of the event organizer. The Organizer can turn away any member for ANY reason, either at the beginning of the hike or anytime during the hike. Organizers may also change a member’s RSVP response for any reason. Members that disrespect Wildcat Adventure Club policies and it's members are not welcome at our events. Those of you who are consistently reliable, respectful, responsible are VERY WELCOME at our events!
ARRIVE ON TIME: Organizers have no obligation to wait for late comers. Often there is a 5-15 minute meet/greet period before leaving the meeting place, but there is no guarantee so please arrive early. If you arrive late for a hike and find that the group has already departed, do not attempt to locate the group and join the hike. As a general rule, members are not allowed to join a hike that has already begun. Make sure to arrive earlier than the scheduled start time so that you are well prepared and ready to leave with the group. If you miss an event due to lateness or getting lost, it would be appropriate to e-mail the event organizer with an explanation, particularly since the system will automatically log you as a "NO-SHOW for that event.
For purposes of safety and organization, participants must follow these requirements when attending an event:
1.) Be aware of the hike leader’s pace and don’t stray far from the group. Stop at trail junctions and wait for the organizer to indicate the next trail direction. Our hikes are organized as a group effort and participants are expected to stay with the group rather than go off alone or race ahead of the group.
2.) If you leave the group (for example, to take a bathroom break) let the leader know so you can be accounted for.
3.) If for any reason, you need to leave the hike before it is finished, let the hike leader know and he/she will sign you out of the hike.
HEALTH & CONDITIONING:PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND a hike that is beyond the limits of your health & conditioning. This is not fair to others who expect to enjoy the hike at the level it was described, OR to the Organizer or other members who may have to wait or look for you if you get behind or get lost. Please browse our calendar for upcoming events that match your ability.
GEAR REQUIREMENTS: Come prepared with the right hiking gear, especially boots/shoes, and enough food and water. These needs are different for everyone, so if you are not sure what to bring, contact the organizer of the event or read their "WHAT TO BRING" section in the event description. It is inappropriate to expect other members who are on the event with you to share their food and water if you neglect to bring these necessities.
RSVP INFORMATION: It is not appropriate nor allowed to attend an event without a "YES" Rsvp. There is often limited space, and attendees that are not on the Rsvp list are not allowed to join the event.
WAITLIST: If your are on the “Waitlist” the organizer will change your RSVP to a “YES” when he/she decides space is available. It is not appropriate to show-up hoping to attend an event because your name was on the “Waitlist” but was not added to the “YES” list by the organizer. Attendance on THE NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB events is for members on the YES list only.
NO-SHOWS: THE Meet-up Platform NOW KEEPS TRACK OF “NO-SHOWS.” Your name will automatically be added to this list EACH time you RSVP without showing up. These stats are visible to organizers only. Organizers will potentially change a member's RSVP from a "Yes" to a "No" or downgrade to waiting list status if that member has a history of "NO SHOWS." In fact, the general rule is that 2 or more "no shows" is grounds for removal from the club.
RSVP YES: When you want to join an event, BUT make sure to change your RSVP if your plans change.
RSVP NO: It is not necessary to RSVP "no" if you cannot attend the event.
RSVP MAYBE: This option is generally not used by the organizers because it counts as a "yes" in the RSVP total count, which inhibits other members from attending if they are a definite "YES." If you RSVP "maybe" consistently without showing up to the event or changing your "MAYBE" RSVP to a "YES" or "NO" then this will get you on the "NO SHOW" list and result in your removal from the club.
DISCUSSION BOARD: Use the discussion board to communicate with other members regarding issues & information relating to the event such as map, route, experience, carpool & gear needs. Specific questions for the organizer should be emailed directly. Your RSVP response is also an effective way to make a statement.
GUESTS: Organizers may or may not allow guests. If the guest option is not on when you RSVP, it means guests are not allowed for this hike. If guests are allowed, it is your responsibility to make sure your guests understand the rules, policies and expectations as described in this document. Pay close attention to the organizer’s statement about bringing guests for the event you wish to join as bringing a guest(s) is not always an option.
COST: To attend a NORTH BAY HIKING CLUB event you must pay a fee. The fee for each event varies. When the organizer has to put in substantial time planning a complicated day hike or a multi-day event involving camping fees etc., then the fee will be higher. Costs also cover the monthly fee that the group organizer has to pay Meet-up for the existence of a Meet-up group on their website.
DONATION TO WILDLIFE & HABITAT PRESERVATION: All fees that are not used to pay basic operating expenses are donated to Wildlife and Habitat Conservation and Preservation groups. Currently, funds are being collected for donation to the Mountain Lion Foundation.
CARPOOLING: Some Organizers arrange carpools, but you can also set-up your own carpools by using the comment section in your RSVP or the discussion board. Don't wait for someone to contact you. Be pro-active and check the list regularly. Aside from saving gas and cutting down on smog, some trail-heads have very few parking spaces.
LIABILITY: Before you were allowed to join Meetup, you had to check a box saying you read and agreed to Meetup's Terms of Service. One of the most important sections in these terms as an Organizer, is Section 6.2 which refers to liability. Here is a link for your review. http://www.meetup.com...
