Donner Pass Rock Climb and Full Moon Camping Trip

Come join us rock climbing at Donner Pass at the top of the Sierra.  This will be a joint trip with The Spirit of Adventure Meet Up Group.   We will be camping, rock climbing, doing a rock climb under the full moon and having good cheer.  The Donner Pass climbing area is at 7,000 feet elevation, so if it's hot in the Bay Area, it will still be nice at Donner.  The camping site is at the base of the rock and will require us to hike under a half mile from the road to the site.  The pictures on this post were taken in April when there was snow, at this time of the year, we will have beautiful alpine meadows surrounding us.

We are planning to have a great time at the campfire.  We are hoping to have a large group.   Libations, singing, possibly a guitar.  Join us howling with the wolves under the full moon in the last month of summer.  Bring food to cook over the fire, but whatever you bring to Donner, it has to taste like chicken.

Spirit of Adventure climbing trip April 2014

There is a great range of climbs here, from easy top ropes, easy first time leads, more experienced leads and top ropes and some crazy things too.  The climbing is on granite rocks ranging from small to hundreds of feet. Both cracks and sport climbs co-exist here, and there are some great climbs of both sorts. There are great views of Donner Lake and the High Sierra.  The area offers top ropes and climbs up to 4 pitches.  There are some great routes for beginner leads too.

Some of the better known climbs include:

Donner Lake from the climbing area.

Donner Pass is located just south of 80 east of Truckee.  It is 195 miles from Santa Rosa to Donner Pass and with a slightly lead foot, you can reach it in under 3 hours.  We will be setting up carpools.  See comments in the section below.

Here is a Google Map of the location:  Map of Donner Pass   click on highlighted area.
