Hike Marin Headlands 8-9 miles Moderate (depending on your condition)

  • Aug 11, 2012 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

  • It will be hot this wkend and this will be a great way to enjoy beating the heat.

The Plan: We'll hike from Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach where we'll have a snack break, then follow the Coastal Trail to Tennessee Cove, where we'll have lunch and enjoy chilling on the beach.  From there we'll hike a short 2.5 miles back to the parking lot.

Optional: go out for a meal/drink after the hike.

Directions: From US 101 in Marin County, take the CA 1/Shoreline Highway exit. After about 0.5 mile, turn left onto Tennessee Valley Road. Go about 1.5 miles to the parking lot at the end of the road.

    What To Bring:

    Good Hiking Boots/shoes

    Layered clothing, hat, sunscreen.

At least 1 liter of water (2 is better)

Drinks/snacks for our pre-lunch break during the hike.

Food and more food to share (dried fruit/nuts/seeds, chips, dips, salsa, cheese/crackers, deserts - be creative!)

Drinks to share (and paper cups)

If you've been on any of my hikes you know what to expect.

Your sense of humour is an absolute must!

good hike & day. enjoyed the return trip via the Real Pacific coast trail, along the cliffs, the most. Time estimate listed on site was way off, ie too short by a lot. I had to leave the group early...too bad; I'd have enjoyed hanging out on the beach at the end.

Excellent day. REALLY good grp of hikers who made this day a big success. Some of us hung out at Tennessee Cove for a while and enjoyed chatting and telling stories on the beach.

This was an enjoyable hike. Probably a little more than Moderate at a couple times if everyone of all ages and fitness level are huffing and puffing and sweating, but I enjoyed it.

As for those calories, we can probably burn off at least 300,000 of them. I know, that's a bit shy of the goal, but I try.

Go to the end of Tennessee Valley Rd. It ends at the parking lot. We'll meet at the picnic table at the trail head. You'll see a crowd of hikers.

About 700' elevation gain. This hike is fairly mellow.
