Beautiful Ride Through Western Sonoma County

  • Sep 1, 2012 · 10:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This will be 30 miles of some amazing scenery!

The Plan: We'll head out the Santa Rosa Creek Trail and go to a winery o/s of Sebastopol, where we'll have lunch, then ride through Graton and continue out Graton Rd for some beautiful scenery, then stop at a winery I just found today.  Marimar is owned by a Spanish family from the Barcelona area in Spain.  This winery has some amazing wines.  I tasted there today and met the tasting room manager who opened some wines for me they typically don't taste.  If you don't like the wine at Marimar I'll refund you the price of this Meetup.  (Oh that's right, we don't charge for these great events, do we?)

From there we'll head towards Graton and take some lesser known county roads that have some breathtaking scenery.  We'll work our way to the Joe Rodota Trail and drop into Sebastopol, and finally head back to Santa Rosa.  If you've enjoyed any of the other rides I've led, I guarantee you'll flip over this one.

This ride is flat for the most part, but has some rolling hills that are strenuous.  As always we wait for those who need more time on the hills.  The countryside on this ride make the hills well worth it.

I rode this one today and enjoyed it so much I knew I had to take the grp out to experience it.

What To Bring:

Snacks, water, and a lunch.

Wear:  Sunscreen, layered clothing, your helmet.

I pack a few fruit bars and a sandwich for lunch.  We'll have lunch in a beautiful courtyard w/ a fountain at one of the wineries.

Preparation:

Fill your tires the day/eve before.
Have your bike tuned and in good shape.

Getting out for a couple nice rides before this one (on your own if necessary) would help.

A repair kit (optional, though always suggested).

As always, your sense of humour is required!

This ride is being posted on 4 other Meetup sites, though attendance will be limited to 12.

they came from all corners of Nor Cal ... and a nicer group of peddlers you would be hard-pressed to find. Really, it was great to meet everyone. Those who could not make it, we hope to meet you out there on the trails...soon.

This was one of my favourite rides. As Helen said, it was a really good grp and we absolutey enjoyed the time together. We had good wine, played bocce, picked berries, and enjoyed ea other's company.
Some of us came to my place for dinner then went to a concert and danced, danced, danced.
    Excellent day!

Chas puts a lot of time into planning and making sure everyone is okay on the ride. Everyone was really friendly, too. Sorry my bike was not worthy. ;) Hope you all had fun and that Logan and I didn't cause too much waiting. I thought we had someone run ahead of us to inform the group that we were leaving.

Kathryn, The ride is now full, and the wine tastings are in the middle of the ride. Jump in earlier next time.

Thanks! Indeed I realize it's full but I wondered if I could ride on my own and just meet up with the group for some lunch or wine tasting to be social. But I would need the ride map and approximate times :)

Oh Chas really? I will be riding 4 panniers on board and challenge you to load me down with wine clubbing ambitions...etc. As for Kathryn, let the girl ride dude.

I should clarify my question. Is there any wine tasting at the end or near the end? After wine, my bike riding ability goes down :) so unless the mid-ride tasting is near the end, I'd find that hard to do.

I see that reservations have closed. Is it possible to get the route map and meet up with the group at one of the stops?

Hi Chas, I think I can do this hike? I do have a road bike but it helps me with longer distances. We are not going off road right?
let me know if its still open. Rose

Hi Chas. You mentioned 30 miles. Is that one way since bike speed is around 15miles/hr and we are going to be back around 4-430? Not sure if I can make 60 miles but definitely 30. Please advice. TT-
