GENDER FUN 101:

Presented by STERLING’S SCHOOL OF DRAG

with The LadyMan, Sterling Maxwell

(Professional Gender/Drag Performer, 25+ years)

Taken from the full-length classes for Male and Female Representation 101*, this gender fun workshop will get attendees thinking about how we represent our own gender and how we identify other’s gender with universal signifiers and stereotypes. This is a class for anyone who would like to explore gender performance, understand gender representation a bit more, and for just have a little fun playing with gender expression. There are no right or wrong answers in this workshop. This is an open and safe space to explore all possibilities in the gender spectrum guided by a professional gender performer, Sterling Maxwell. We will cover such things as posture, walking, facial expressions, projecting the energy you want to represent, owning your expression, empowering yourself by exploring options, body movement and more. Expect to have your mind opened a bit wider while learning and have some gender fun!

WHAT IS THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE “SCHOOL OF DRAG” ?

We all put on drag every day. Some people wear business drag, performance drag, church drag, shopping drag, cleaning drag, sleeping drag, parent drag, causal drag, formal drag, fetish drag, glitter fairy drag, and/or stud muffin drag… but at the base of all that is gender drag; representing as female or male. Some people use the fashion of drag to express various sides of their gender. Some people blur those lines on a regular basis and enjoy playing with the sometimes not-so-subtle nuances of gender stereotypes. Daily, we all do drag of some form in life. Some people also do it on a stage to entertain. Life is like a big drag show. Either way you drag it, is up to you.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
