Around the state in 3 days

We will be doing a southern, then western, then northern Colorado ride. Down 285 to Buena Vista, then north over Independence pass, down to Aspen and up to Glenwood Springs. Spend the night in Glenwood. Then the next day we will head west towards Grand Junction, turning southeast at about a little town called Cameo. Then head down highway 65 to Delta, and northeast up towards Redstone, back to Glenwood, then west to Rifle and north to Craig where we will spend the second night. On Monday morning we will head east on highway 40 through Steamboat Springs and on east to Granby. Then up highway 125 to Walden, over Cameron Pass and down Poudre Canyon, back to Fort Collins.

I have done the math on the mileage and time required to ride this route allowing for gas stops, rest stops and sightseeing breaks, and we should have no issues about having to rush, which I detest.

I will contact motels in Glenwood and Craig and get their contact info. Then I will post this info and you will each need to contact them to reserve your room. Should you choose to camp instead of motel, I suggest you research a site. Myself I want a shower and a soft bed.

Had a good time on this ride. Plenty of challenging mountain roads and great riders to share them with. Always relaxing to soak in the Glenwood Springs pool after a ride.

Is anyone planning on camping in Glenwood Springs? I can't get Monday off but I might ride on Saturday, camp in Glenwood, and then ride back on Sunday.

Have you found a campground or know of a good spot yet?

      June 18

    • Rudy

Just W of Glenwood Springs is Ami's Acres. I'll call tomorrow to find out cost and availability.

Just E of Craig is Craig Campground, which is ~$30 for 2 people.

Depending on what time we get into town, I might just roll around and find somewhere in the woods.

I'll also be meeting you guys at the Conoco on I25 and 52. My number is[masked]

Hey Dave and Dan, Of course you can meet us at I25 and 52. If I am not mistaken there is a Conoco or Shell station on the south west corner of the interchange. That would be a good place. If I am wrong about the station, please correct me or suggest a place to meet. I would rather pull off the highway with the size group we have for safety.

Forgot to verify - it is a Conoco gas station/truck stop. McD's is across the street.

I'd like to meet at I25 and 52 as well. It would save me an hour of riding.

Randy - I haven't been on a ride with this group yet, but this trip sounds like a lot of fun. Would you happen to have the GPX for the trip you have planned?

I might be doing the MTA Roundup in Montrose the week leading up to this ride. It ends the 19th , so I might meet up with the group somewhere from that direction. This all depends on if I can get someone at work to switch on-call weeks with me. Too bad they don't have a "maybe" options on here. :-)

Ok I have info. Please feel free to research your own if you wish. The Glenwood Springs motel I have chosen is the Silver Spruce Motel. I have stayed there before and it was pleasant and centrally located. The phone number is[masked]-5458.
The room rates vary but you can choose from one room one bed at $69.50 to $89.50 per night. The difference is larger rooms for the higher rates. You can also choose 1 room two beds at $99.50 per night.
The motel in Craig I have chosen is the Super 8 motel. When I called a couple days ago they told me they were in the process of replacing all the mattresses. (Woohoo!) They also gave us a group rate for ANY room of $55 per person. The phone number is[masked]-3471. You will need to mention that you are with either North Colorado Riders Or Front Range Colorado Riders, and say that LAURA authorized the group rate of $55.
If you have any questions, or any trouble making your reservations, please don't hesitate to call me at[masked]

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
