The NCSC is a competitive, group of road and mtn cyclists who enjoy riding on the north side of COS. We are a fun group of people who love to ride, work hard to stay fit/in shape, and we build many friendships along the way. This is more a group of riders than a bike 'club' per se. We ride on roads and do single-track trails. We do not do paved 'trail' rides. We emphasize being smart, safe, and self-sufficient when out on the bike.
This group is NOT FOR BEGINNERS, unless you are competitive and a fast learner. If you are just looking for road/mtb rides that contain a beginner or easier pace with frequent stops, please check out Colorado Springs Cycling Club at http://bikesprings.org That club has both social and general fitness rides.
For the NCSC, all riders must have a helmet, and AT LEAST have a spare tube/patch kit, a pump (or air cartridges), and hopefully know how to use them. :-) We can help if needed though. We occasionally hold training 'classes' on gear, bike tuning, being prepared for weather/mechanical problems, and general skill building. We like to help those looking to improve their skill level. Many times, we do not all ride at the same pace, but we will do our best not to leave someone slow or struggling behind!
Locally, our road rides start at various locations as determined by the ride leader. Trail rides will start from various trailheads. We occasionally plan extended trips throughout the year for both road and trail rides.
Difficulty/ratings: Pace will vary and is determined by the leader. PLEASE SEE TERRAIN/PACE CLASSIFICATIONS in the FILES section!! We will do our best to give you an accurate objective idea of what to expect for terrain/distance/etc. Of course, how challenging a ride is will often be determined by your personal level of fitness.
The NCSC is a great way to find ambitious riders with similar ability/desire. This is a growing dynamic group with members often setting up rides among themselves (not posted on the site). We often meet for social time after rides and there may be the occasional party on a weekend. :-)
The unfortunate but necessary DISCLAIMER...
In case you are unaware, bike riding on roads and trails has their inherent risks. This includes potential INJURY and even DEATH, from cars, trees, the ground, other riders, dehydration, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, mechanical failures, etc. Your involvement in group activities indicates you understand these risks and acknowledge YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for your health and well being while participating in pre/during/post ride activities related to this group. Waivers will not be signed. Please do your best to be prepared for rides. We are glad to help you in this regard. Now...let's ride! :-)
