Idyllwild, CA 92549
This seems to be a pretty good warm up for Mt. Whitney, so here goes. This is about 15 plus miles with a little altitude and elevation gain. This will be good to build stamina, but also a fun but challenging hike, even if you aren't prepping for Whintney.
I think we should carpool/caravan if possible. Nessy's Burgers on 15 and 76 seems like a pretty good spot to meet. Probably around 7:00 am?
Description from Trails.com:
This is Idyllwild?s most popular hike, according to U.S. Forest Service rangers. A series of moderately challenging switchbacks lead past scenic views of Lily Rock and pine-covered mountains to Saddle Junction, where you can pick up the Pacific Crest Trail or continue all the way to San Jacinto Peak. With a 1,700 foot elevation gain and an easy-to-follow trail, it?s a good moderate hike that can be done in a couple of hours. Outstanding Features: scenic views of San Jacinto Mountains and Suicide Rock; pine forest, sheer rock walls.
Note:I think the "couple hours" is a bit off. Maybe 4 to 5 hours? Let me know if you know.
See you out there,
