  • This is a leisurely, less demanding hike at Suwanee River State park the day after the more intense hike.

This is an amazing property, one of my favorite in the state park system. This is part 2 of 2 of a mega-hike weekend at Suwannee River State Park. It’s a bit of a drive, but this is a hike experience will not forget!

Interested in exploring some of the shorter trails and cultural resources this park has to offer? We'll check out civil war earthworks, abandoned bridges, gushing springs, and vistas of the river. We will hike a couple of short trails, probably 5-6 miles total. Hikers should budget at least 3 hours for this activity.

Bring a pack with snacks, 3 pints of water, bug-spray and shoes suitable for walking long distances. The park has vending machines, restrooms, and water.

This is an entry-to-intermediate level hike open to hikers in good physical condition. Let’s meet at the main day use/picnic area at Suwanee River State park.

Park Address: [masked]st Path, Live Oak, FL 32060.

    Park Phone: (386)[masked]
Meetup Date: Sunday May 12, 2013.
    Meetup Time: 9:30 am.

    Directions from Jax:
    - I-10 West to Exit #275 (Hwy 90). Carefully note this exit number as I-10 intersects Hwy 90 at multiple locations.
    - Make a left at the end of the ramp, onto Hwy 90 West.
    - Drive West On Hwy 90 approximately 5 miles.
    - You will see a large sign for Suwanee River State Park, make a right.
    - Drive straight through to the entrance to Suwannee River state park.
    - Enter the park, pay the admission fee, and proceed to the day use/picnic area.

Take note that the park is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Jax, depending on your starting location. Plan your start time accordingly. Best bet is to mapquest from your starting location.

We will meetup at the main parking/day use area within the park. Note that hikers are responsible for covering their own park admission fees: Park Fees are $4 for single occupancy vehicles, $5 for multi-occupancy vehicles. The park has campsites and cabins available, visit for campsite info or call the park at (386) 362-2746.

Note that I may cancel or postpone this activity due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

    See you there!!!

I set the head count on this hike to 25, but may open it up to more if additional activity leaders attend.
