Haunted Hike

The annual Haunted Hike is hosted by the Gold Head Associates (Friends of Gold Head Branch State Park). This year we will also have a costume ball and food available for purchase. The cost of the hike is $5.00 and the costume ball is a separate $5.00 fee. This event is very popular and draws quite a crowd so come early and have dinner with us. This is one of the largest fundraisers for Gold Head SP so please come out and show your support. A 5+ mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail passes through Gold Head and is maintained by our chapter. Hope to see you there. More details to follow as the events draws nearer.

Yes, a great big thank you to each one that help make our haunted hike a success. Real troopers to hang in there through the rain.

Had a great turnout of over 600 who were daring enough to brave the elements and come out for a spooktacular hike. The rain threatened us at first but after it was gone made the moonlight view perfect for our haunted hike. The haunters were excellent and very scary. The boyscouts setup gets better every year. The group after the millsite got me every time. I led 5 hikes through and every one was a different kind of scary and a different view of the full moon. Thanks so much to Cary, Linda, Leslie, Alton, and Mike for leading the hikes and hanging in there to the end. Thanks to Donnie and Denise for helping us out with the haunting. We will definatley do this again next year so if you missed it mark your calendars for the Saturday closest to the full moon that is closest to Halloween.

It was awesome! I especially liked the middle section with the smoke and the guy sitting in the chair shortly after that. I really thought he was fake..

Had a good time. Got soaked but still fun. The rain, fog, and moon made for a spooktacular night.

Despite the threatening rain, the clouds cleared and the full moon glowed bright over the hikers and haunters last night! We had a good turnout and I'm glad some Trailblazers adventured out for the fun. Kudos again to Janie for her awesome energy. I'm sure the Hike raised a lot of money for GoldHead, which deserves to be experienced in the daylight, too. Thanks to Cary, Alton, Mike, and Linda for guiding the hikers through the scaries. I'll be there again next year!

This hike can be very scary and is through the woods on a dirt path with roots, etc. Please be sure to wear appropriate shoes. Hike is approximately 1 mile long. Advised not to bring small children.

All hike leaders and haunters will need to be at the recreation building at 5:00pm Saturday prior to the event. Let me rangers know you are helping with the event when you come in the front gate.

  • Sandra

Can you provide further detail about how the costume ball works?

    October 14, 2013

    • Janie

We will have a costume contest with a DJ and there will be prizes for the winners. Dancing, fun and scary stuff. There will be hot dogs and snacks for sale during the event. I will be leading hikes so will not be able to attend the ball. Hope you will enjoy it. The Ball is at the first pavillion on the right as you enter into the picnic area of the Park. The Haunted Hike starts just past the last pavillion at the end of the picnic area of the Park. You can attend either or both events but there is a separate charge for each.

We can use all the haunters we can get but it is preferred that the boys be teens or older. It depends on their maturity level and if they can keep it up until 11:30pm. Please call Craig at the ranger station if you are interested[masked]-4701. All haunters will need to be there early for a short meeting at 5:00pm. Thanks!

A night hike sounds like quite an adventure! I checked on the internet and it looks like a full moon is predicted. Should help to avoid tripping on any large protruding roots on the trail.

This annual event is planned for the full moon Saturday closest to Holloween. The trail is usually very visable with the full moon.

This hike is approx 1 mile and haunted all along the way. A lot will be going on and the event is advertised and open to the public. There will be a DJ for the costume ball with a separate admission charge. Please come out and support Gold Head as they are very supportive of the Florida Trail.
