Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park (map)
For experienced hikers only please. May be some off-trail hiking, i.e. bushwacking!
We will scout a new trail at Pumpkin Hill with Corey Determan, Park Specialist for Talbot Islands State Parks. We are looking for a footpath route from Tiger-Betz through Pumpkin Hill to Cedar Point to connect all 3 parks. We will be assessing what kind of equipment and how much manpower we'll need. The estimated length of the new trail is only 2 miles, but could take us awhile to pick a route. Come join the fun! Wear hiking boots, dress in layers, water, food, bug spray.
We'll schedule the actual work hike after this. Then everyone can come blaze, lop, prune, mow.
You will have to complete a security form from the State Park. It's required of all volunteers. Corey says we can fill it out that day.
Leslie, after all of the questions I peppered Corey with at the meeting, I probably won't be able to make this scouting trip. My wave for the stair climb doesn't start until 1030 so I don't see how I can make it. However, I definitely want to help when we start cutting, mowing, blazing, etc the trail!
We won't need any power tools or mowers this trip. Scouting only.
This is great to see such a good turnout for this. Wish I could be there to help. Myself and Barbara will be cleaning Port-o-lets on Camp Blanding as they will let us use them if we clean them. Not to make anyone feel guilty or anything :)
Janie - from the amount of responses, I don't think we feel guilty!
Should I sharpen my machete? I just love saying "machete". Machete!
Sandy, I could keep you company for flagging this coming week but only on Wed. You and I may be the only two retired folks in the group.
Is having a government job the same as being retired?
